Sold the Vette
Sold the '94 convertible a few days ago. Had a few issues I didn't want to deal with. The ac leaking down (no idea), bad heater core ($500 to repair), scuff on the bumper when I got it ($900 to r&r), and a cracked windshield that happened back in April ($380). Time to go.
I have a policy that when my investment reaches the break-even point, I sell the car. That way I don't lose money even if I only break even. At least I drive them for free. If I make a profit, then I got paid to drive it. I still made a little on this one. Been driving the '98 Eldorado ETC. Just about to turn 34k miles any day now. I love the crap out of this one. I thought about buying another one to use as a dd. So now car shopping for the next cruise. Let's see what happens. |

How much? $$$ I've tried to always do the same. Never made much, but, had fun and came out a little ahead each time.

I once bought a 1964 Rambler station wagon for $50, & flipped it for $75 after a year.

Maybe if you could fix things yourself you could turn a profit, instead of pawning off problems on someone else. |

Again, I did turn a profit. To have fixed the issues would have negated any profit. The car is only worth so much.
As far as doing the repairs myself I was an actual mechanic for years. The only thing I would have had to get fixed would have been painting the bumper. I chose not to do the repairs. Also, any potential buyer was made aware of the defects. They were listed in the ad along with pics of the areas. I have had well over two hundred cars. Only lost money on a handful. This was usually due to keeping them too long and putting too much investment into them. |

My two cents: 1. $500 is dirt cheap to replace the heater core on that car. I wouldn't do it for that. I love working on old cars, but many later than 1990 are simply no fun.
2. Driving a 1998 Caddy as a daily makes you a braver man than I. Very trouble-prone and marginal cars. |
