SRS answer, even if you weren't looing for one:

Ask your wife why she feels you need to eat more fruit. Is it for the micro-nutrients? Because most fruit is full of natural sugars and not really necessary. Although there are some benefits on the micro-nutrient level.

My wife eats a plant-based diet, & encourages me to do so as well. I tell her that Scotch & Bourbon are plant-based, but she refuses to listen.

I don't know shit about "micro-nutrients", but if I was totally focused on diet, I pretty much agree with you. Fruits are a good source of vitamin C and A, but those can be obtained from other foods that are lower in sugar.

Truth be told, my diet isn't nearly as bad as she seems to think it is. I openly admit to drinking more beer than I should, and that is the epitome of "empty calories".
