Having survived a Hurricane that put down winds similar to that storm, lower..but similar..in a wood framed, Brick and mortar home...I can tell you it was a hell on earth experience. To be in a remote area, an island, with no power, no fresh water, no support system in place..the surge, the rain, the severe winds..I cant fathom what these people are going through. I predict that no matter how many have lost their lives from the storm..5X more will lose their lives from infection, disease, and malnourishment in the coming weeks.

Is the US government sending one of our hospital ships over to give support? and fresh water?

Big issue now is figuring out what we're up against and if/when we can get there
Also, whether we can negotiate reasonable fares. At the current rate, it makes more sense to use funds for supplies that we can forward to Tim

It would appear that some form of cell/internet communications are still up as there is at least one individual posting twitter pictures of the destruction. Accordingly, Dixie have you been able to contact Tim's cell phone? This presumes that it is still operable and did not get water logged as Yolanda crossed the island.

I'm hearing Angeles got only a little rain and wind. That means the Manila International Airport is business as normal. However, getting to Tim may take a while.

Realistically, the thing they will need the most are supplies and fresh water. They have plenty of labor to rebuild.
When Tim gets back online, he can give us their immediate needs and we can fund that.

It sure looks bad.
What another post said was right. Immediate needs are; safe drinking water, food, medical aid, and materials for shelter. The locals have the skilled labor force to actually work on rebuilding. But materials will be hard to get and pricey.
I feel like I would like to help out, but, realistically, would not be able to do much to help rebuild without adding to the human burden.
If we can find a way to get the supplies to the area, without having them stolen or resold for profit, I will contribute anything I can.
Maybe posting a sticky to give the updated info on how to help would be a good idea.
I've known a lot of people from the Phillipines, and they were great people, who deserve whatever help we can give them.

Appears from Tim's prior posts that many materials can be sourced locally. Metal roofing can be salvaged and reused.

Waiting to hear here from Tim and what he needs.

Exactly; gotta do some homework first and find out where to start.

In regard to a skilled labor force; I think that is questionable at best.
According to Tim there are a few guys that have saws with some basic skills but little more. Certainly not enough
to put shelter up for a full island as quickly as possible.

If it's not cost prohibitive, I'd like to get a couple people on the ground that may be of great assistance in terms of organizing people and supplies.

I know Rob has calls out to Tim to get a status report.
