Had to answer this question when Loki was 4 months old, about 5 years ago. And the amount was 5k.

in other words, around here at least, $2k is nothing in vet bills. The last time Miss Belle actually had a problem, it cost me about $8K. Both me and my wife were out of work at the time, and struggling financially. I paid it without even blinking.

And you won't pay more than $5 for a haircut.

Stick to cats yo. Nobody cares when a cat dies. You toss it in the trash, go to the pound, and get a new free cat.

If the "fix" was 100% guaranteed to improve the dog's quality of life then yes.

If the "fix" would only keep the dog alive longer but leave him in pain that's selfish and I'd have him put down.

Not enough variables listed. Age, general health, is it worth it in the long run, etc. I would be kind of pissed if I paid that kind of money out to save my dog and he still ended up croaking. I'm just waiting form my min. Schnauzer to croak at any time. He isn't miserable, still uses the bathroom ok, but he is 14, so do the math. He is just an old man.....

Ask Porter if he wants a dog.

I can't imagine how much we would have spent if my wife wasn't a vet. We probably would have had a lot fewer animals though.

I have spent in the past, with both positive and negative result. If I was destitute I would "fix" the problem myself for less than $1.00. Even if not, 2 grand is not a small bill to swallow.... I would have to think long and hard.

When we were kids and something happened to the dog we just got another dog.

That being said, last year we lost our black Terrier named Lil' Bit. She developed heart failure. While we're not hurting for money we ain't exactly rollin' in it either. Bit was a good little dog and the first to greet me every day when I came in from work. Many vet trips (at $125 to $400 plus a pop) and various meds were tried but in the end we had to take her for that final visit. I held her head in my lap as she went to sleep. Like now, I admit I cried. It broke my heart, and still does. I miss her every day when I open the door. I loved that damn dog.
Short answer: Yes.
