He would have just won his 7th... yes 7th championship under the old points system.

43 year old Jeff Gordon looked a hell of a lot like 25 year old Jeff Gordon this season. I hope for the sake of the sport that he doesn't retire. He is at a company that he clearly likes being a part of. Based on what I saw, he still has the desire and the talent not only to race, but to win.

Love him or hate him, there is absolutely no denying that he is 1 of the greatest drivers in ANY series to ever put on a helmet. It'll be a sad day when he stops turning laps.

Not a big NASCAR fan. But I never understood the hate for Gordon?

My guess. and correct me if I'm off base...
He's not one of the southern "good 'ole boys"?
He was/is a real threat to Dale Sr. when racing and the modern era championship record?

That may have been the case 20 years ago.....but take a look at the lineup these days....not many "good old boys" left...especially since Jeff Burton retired.

How many fit the mold today? Your 2014 champion is from California. 6 time Jimmie Johnson.....California. Kurt & Kyle Busch? Las Vegas. Matt Kenseth? Wisconsin.....and on and on. The only real touch of the old NASCAR is when the Sadler brothers tawk..........."Mawk Mawtin in his Fowd Towwus racing Jeff Gowdun...." I swear, I can only make out every third work Hermie says.....

Jeff Gordon is a great driver with a desire to win. I think he would have had 6 or 7 championships with the old points system.
