I wonder how long Danica will last at Daytona?. I'm expecting a huge number of pileups, mainly because the haven't had enough time to learn this new bump and draft system, plus 43 cars on the track vs 25. Gonna be an interesting race

Yeah, but I'll take that over the 2 car drafting that developed at the super speedways the last couple of years {yawn}

I think the over/under on Danica is about 15 laps.

... Kyle certainly does have one thing going for him. Samantha.

Money and fame make up for a dopey expression on your face I suppose. I mean really, what's wrong with this picture;

This marriage will last as long as his career and money lasts.

And I bet brother Kurt just took a huge pay cut. Maybe Kyle should be paying attention. These guys are burning bridges....and there are only a limited number of first rate gigs in NASCAR.

Never been a big Kurt fan but I would love to see that small team go kick some ass this year.

NASCAR needs an underdog to step up. It has been since Alan Kulwicki that a small budget team really competed with the big boys week in and week out.

I can't stand the SOB.....but I love rooting for the underdog. I'm with ya.

Kurt comes into El Paso all the time. Flies into a FBO, and we deliver cars. Could meet him if I felt like it.....but that's 5 minutes I'll never get back.

But UNTIL he learns when to dial it back, he will never win a championship. Petty, Johnson, Gordon, Earnhardt, Stewart, etc all have one common thread: They know when to go slower in order to go faster. You can't run the car at 110% all the time. You will destroy your equipment, and rack up a ton of DNF's....not to mention piss off your competitors and alienate your fan base.....something Rowdy has done a marvelous job at.

If....and it's a BIG if....he learns some patience and big picture thinking, he will win multiple championships. If not, he will remain without a title his entire career. His older brother has had over a decade to develop some maturity....and just when you think he's done that....he pulls a stunt like he did with Dr. Jerry Punch. And damn near in lockstep with that, Kyle gets benched for the Hornaday incident. All the talent in the world does you no good if you're a douchebag.

VERY well put!! Olympic grade douchebag...with oak leaf clusters!! I can't argue with his skill! And I hate that! Sometimes when he's whining about how unfair life is, I happily picture a 1" drive breaker bar being swung through his head! Maturity is a long path for him to ever get near the class of Dale, Jr , Jeffy and Tony and the real pros..

Well put yourself Bunky. Being a great wheelman means nothing if you can't show restraint when you need to.

I'd throw Mark Martin in that list too. Doesn't overdrive a bad or mediocre car and wreck half the field, thinks big picture. Granted he doesn't have a title, but 2nd place 5 times is impressive. Martin is one of the greats in my book.

Well, I still have a problem with a sport that can reign a 'Champion' a person who's never won a race. Nobody remembers (or should) 2nd place.

I wasn't a fan when #3 raced, but his nickname and highlights I've seen, seems he drove just like Kyle does. Kyle matured up alot last year (in cup) and only his stupid antics in the truck/nationwide races seemed to ruin what could have been a championship year.

I agree with this weeks race, love the new cars and the lack of tandem driving along with no driver to driver communication rules. It will make the big tracks much more interesting along with giving the 'small/independent' drivers a more even playing field.

No, Dale was an intimidator, he pushed you until you couldn't take the pressure and you screwed up. If you got in his way too long, he moved you and everyone knew it. It didn't matter who you were, I've seen him run over his best firends on the track, it just didn't matter. The difference is that Dale owned it after the fact and denied nothing. Dale did not suffer fools well and backed down from no one.

All drivers knew that if you saw a black #3 in your mirror, you better not keep him there for long. Run away or let him go or suffer the consequence and don't expect an apology or denial afterwards.

That was when racing was fun.

Dale was a racer's racer.

He used to use the "bump and run" on Rusty Wallace at Bristol time after time. Gordon picked up on the technique and used it on Rusty at Bristol a few times too.... He learned a lot of his technique from Dale, as did a lot of young drivers back then.

In Gordon's book, he credits Dale for giving him a lot of advice in the early days, both the racing end and the business end of NASCAR. They were riding around the track during introductions during Gordon's rookie year, and some of the crowed booed when Dale's name was announced. Jeff asked him why they were booing him and if it bugged him. Dale replied "As long as they're making noise, I'm happy. They'll do it to you too if you're successful enough (and they did). Don't worry about that.....when they stop making noise, that's when you worry".

Good advice.

Default Racer's Racer Indeed!

Dale Sr was my first Nascar Hero and I faithfully cheered him on season after season. His first win at the daytona 500 was an emotional high for me! I missed the fatal 500 as I had tables at a gun show and got the sad news from Mrs Rat when I got home. I remember Terry Labonte having a rectal seizure on the track because Dale put him in the #3 turn wall(it was a favour returned). When Jeff came in He learned fast and well (and painfully), courtesy of Dale and he gave Dale the credit. Jeff got my respect because he wasn't a whiner. He learned and earned his craft and titles, all by wins!

There are very few current drivers who don't ring my bell today. A good crop. But the good ones I mentioned before plus Mark Martin, Tony, Jimmy J,...the list goes on but they're so evident to anyone who watches driver's attitudes and techniqes (and ethics). Dale Sr and Tony Stewart both had "bad boy" labels but Dale's was a psyche game of intimidation and Tony had a short fuse but both had unmistakeable skill! They weren't stupid about it like #18.

We love and underdog and we love a rebel but it all goes south when the person is an ass-wipe from Team Snivel..

Sorry, I'll get off my box now....

And if you look real close, you can see the word "Ford" imprinted in the concrete on turn 1 at Bristol

Or this little move on his friend Rusty;

Not to mention, if you want to talk about a save;

As was said by others... not even close.

The closest thing out there to Dale Sr now is Tony Stewart IMO, and even then, it's only on occasion.
