LP’s are outselling CD’s yearly now. Glad I kept mine.

There are two jbl speakers and a kenwood receiver model kr4070. I didn’t see the turntable. J thinks it was a fisher brand.

I picked up a Denon semi-auto turntable with Stanton cartridge a couple of years ago online.
It's going into a 1975 Harman Kardon all tube amp driving Klipsch PA25s and JBL sub

Sounds pretty good, but I'd Love to get a Mc amp!!

Definitely interested in hearing more about the JBLs. The receiver is a nice little vintage piece, not much power at 40 watts per channel though. I’ll send you a PM

Audio gear is a highly personal preference. After I heard several pieces of Mc equipment I knew it was the one for my ears. Others like Pioneer, Sansui, you name it. Get what sounds the best to you.

The other device coming back are cassettes. One of the best mfg was Nakamichi. Look on ebay for the price of a Nakamichi Dragon. I kept all my cassettes and added more that I bought dirt cheap years ago.

Demon, SVS sub and two LBL towers are in my music room; mostly just furniture now. All LPs, cassettes and CD we transferred to digital files so I have a good selection at my fingertips.

Recently started listening exclusively to my collection in the car and coming across hidden gems I haven’t heard for years. Came across Robert Fripp playing with Brian Eno. It’s interesting tracking musicians back throughout their careers with different artists.

I sold my Teac 6 cassette changer on eBay about two years ago. I got a decent price for it.

My 05 Tundra has a cassette player and a CD player from the factory. I play cassettes off roading because they never skip. Some are almost 50 years old and still sound great.

Cassette tapes were never really meant to "sound great". They were merely meant to be better than 8-tracks.

Nice deck but the Dragon is known to be one of the biggest money pits in vintage audio.

This statement is absolutely true.

However, towards the end, with a high end, quality deck and quality tapes, the sound was pretty much phenomenal.

That tweeter is toasted.

That being said, I have a pair of Advance speakers, a small NH company, serial numbers 74 and 75, that I purchased in the late 70's. About 15 years ago, so that would have been after they were 30 years old, the flexible membranes, between the paper cones and metal frames, for the base speakers and passive radiators had rotted. Fortunately I was able to replace just the membranes.

Dome tweeters like your that is crushed can probably be replaced for not a lot of money.

If you’re interested in selling them, although they are damaged, let me know!

Thanks for posting the pics

I think cassettes were originally invented for dictation, not music and especially not high quality music. My pet peeve was how shitty prerecorded cassettes were. The ones we made off LP's and later CD's actually sounded much better.

Nakamichi was the pinnacle of cassette players, be it for home or auto. I remember in spring 1984 going to South Bend and the stereo sales dude had a deck in his Honda Civic we listened to. Amazing. I'd love to one day have a Dragon. Just for the novelty of it.

Yes I'm sure it was a pain to setup and use, but audio heads love that deck. One of he problems I heard was the automatic Azimuth adjustments, versus the ZX-9 which is all manual (see video).

I picked up a Nakamichi ZX-9 in March from a guy that needed to sell it because he was moving to Portugal. I got it for $1900, picked up locally in Sacramento. It was professionally restored by a Nakamichi expert Charalampos Armakolas (Bobby) who is a Nakamichi trained tech who lives in Chicago but is from Greece. When I was talking to Bobby, he said I got a excellent deal on the deck for that price.

I also sent him my Nakamichi BX-150 with the silver face, and 2 Nakamichi MR2 decks that I got for free, but restored by Bobby. Analog tape sounds so much better than digital in my opinion.

Here is a setup review of the ZX-9 on how to set it up for a proper recording.
