Default Managed to get in a few action shots

Philip and Luara came over and put Julie through some paces.
I was able to get perched on the fence and click off a few shots.
Julie has gotten a bit chubby. She's been putting on weight all winter.
Almost as big around as Skia.

Favorite one by far.

Lemma ask a question. How is your camera set up for focusing? Servo? Can you dig up the shutter/aperture setting?

My interpretation of his questions...

- Were you using Automatic or Manual settings (I think most of us would use Automatic).

- If Automatic, were you using the default full-frame settings, or center-weighted, or center-spot (which is what I think I would have used).

Used Automatic and action settings. (the one that snaps off 5 or so frames a second)
As far as the center-spot and center weighted, I don't know what those are.
It sounds like what I did when I cropped them. When I take a pic, I look for balance in the picture, but with the action shots I have to keep my attention on the subject; so I don't always get everything centered up. But that's easy enough to correct with cropping.

I have noticed some little digital read-outs at the bottom of the image in the view-finder, but I haven't read up on what all those mean yet.

center-wiegthed/centere-spot refers to metering.

in center weighted, teh camera will take an average of the lighting conditions and adjust the aperture/shutter speed to get an over all balance on the lighting conditions for a decent overall exposure across the entire fraim.

center-spot, the camera will read the light requirements at the center of the frame (or wherever you have your focusing point selected to) and provide the best settings for the subject at that location, regardless of highlights and shadows around that point

If i had to guess, you are on center-weighted. The pic thomas likes, and probably the reason for his question, is the dark shadows on the face/chest. had it been spot metered, the shadow would not be as defined, bringing our more detail in the subject, and not caring so much about the background.

Wow, Thanks for the input! That puts a big spin on the type of picture you want to take. Now I've got to go practice that.
