Alligators in the retention pond
At my In-laws home in Central FL, the retention pond in the back yard.
About 150 feet from the Lanai, I was grilling dinner when I noticed a log floating in the pond; Turns out, there was two of them. The dude in the front only has his peepers showing. According to the neighbor, the submerged dude is bigger than the guy behind him. The trailing dude is between 5 and 6 feet long, nose to tail. |

That's .
I see a lot of snakes when I'm out, but no gators. |

As these guys turned around and headed to the South, the pond bends. My daughter and her husband walked down to the pond to see were the gators were going, and as they rounded the bend, 5 feet from the water, I saw a splash - and my daughter and SIL jump up, turn around, and run back to the house. They spooked each other.

I took this one a couple of years back (on Halloween day, in 2010)...
... This was a retention pond in a remote area, miles from any other human beings, so I'm sure the gators outnumbered me. BTW, I was using a real-long lens (200mm on my Nikon D40, EXIF info is present). Would have been a perfect setup though, if one of his buddies snuck up behind me. |
