Default Women to be allowed to serve in combat jobs

BREAKING NEWS: Military to open combat jobs to women – CNN Security Clearance - CNN.com Blogs

I have no problem with this - provided they can pass the same PT test as the men. If they want the job, they need to be just as fit. Otherwise they become a liability.

I agree, but I still think ground forces are the tactic of the past, and need be severely cut back, warfare today is totally different, and we COULD easy eliminate islam IF we wanted to.....

Great. Our country swimming trillions in debt will now spend millions, or billions to revamp combat gear? I have a problem with it. There is no need for it. There is a role for men and women in our military, and they are separate.

Women and Men have different standards. Always have, always will.

The article says:
Quote:
The Army and Marine Corps, especially, will be examining physical standards
$5 says that they will NOT be made equal. If they were, too high of a percentage of women would fail and every do-gooder group around would be screaming it's unfair.

Even if they were made the same, being able to run and do some sit-ups does not mean a damn thing in the real world.

Anybody who thinks that everything is equal needs to ask themselves a simple question and answer honestly. If you were laying on a battlefield dying and in need of urgent care with bullets flying past, who would you want pulling you out of harm's way? Would you rather an average male at average Marine Corps fitness standards or an average female at the same fitness level?

This country is NOT ready to see 19 year old girls being dragged through the streets when a convoy gets captured. They are NOT ready to see what used to be a cute little blonde girl missing half of her face after taking a hit.

I have nothing at all against women serving in the military. NOTHING. In my time in the military I can say without hesitation that some of the best people ever to work for me were female and some were male. I worked for some women, I worked for some men. Sex had no relevance on how good of an officer they were. When it comes to the worst... same thing. Some were female, some were male. In non-physical roles, women are absolutely, 100%, no doubt about it as capable as males. That is not in question, but no matter how you spin it, the physical abilities of comparable men and women are not the same.

Call me sexist all you want... that is a true statement and this WILL get people killed.

But hey... yay equality!~

how is a 120 lb women gonna carry the same weight as a 175lb male? now if we are talking serving in combat rolls for the navy or air force, then as long as they can pass the same test as the men.

Women serve in the Israeli army and are in the light infantry.

I agree, and believe me, I am not sexist, but there are physical limitations to things that women can do. I am in heavy aircraft maintenance, and with the seldom exception, my job is not very suitable for women because of their inability to perform certain tasks. By that, I just mean they aren't strong enough. I doubt there are very few women that could stand up to the task to dragging soldiers out of harms way if they were injured. Just facts. Not that they aren't competent, but if I have a woman help me change a tire/wheel assembly on a heavy aircraft and they are not up to the task, which usually they are not, well, it slows the process, etc. That being said, there are a million things women can do (well, in any job/career) but ones that are too physically demanding aren't the place to put them. It puts too much of a burden on those that have to make up for the slack in the name of "equality".

the Coast Guard has allowed women to do push-ups from their knees vs. their toes since I enlisted back in '02.

(natural position, I guess.)

Bad lo back or NOT, I still think I could have flown a desk in some support role at least, did my 4 or more, and had some experiences for the effort....

So I have to somewhat see the chick side of the deal, they can serve, but 40 miles with 500 lbs on their back is a tad much......

ya think??? nothing rong with PT and being in shape, and all, but I think the psych training is just as important as the PT for the folks in theater....

the balls out training is not for some folks.....

and I have heard that the ratio of support to actual combat folks is like 4-1.....given logistics, it sounds about right.....

Wake up, women are already serving in combat. The battle lines of yesterday have changed!

Women in Combat: Reality Catches Up - Bloomberg

With word that the Pentagon is lifting a ban on women serving in direct combat roles, women who have served in the military — including some who have come home with Purple Hearts — are hailing “a historic day.”

About 15 percent of all who serve in active duty in the armed forces are female, and some have played supporting combat roles — in combat helicopters, warplanes and on the ground.

Women have increasingly been exposed to combat as the traditional front lines of battle have become blurred in an age of terrorism and unconventional warfare. Women also fly combat aircraft, including helicopters and carrier-based Navy fighters, and the Navy has begun assigning women to duty on submarines. At least 144 female troops have been killed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and more than 860 have been wounded, according to the Pentagon.

Looks like to me the only changes being made are they now have to past physical test to become involved in the more elite combat roles the were formerly banned from.

I was watching the News were they interview a woman that was serving as an MP at a base with the troops on the front lines. She had lost her arm in a battle.

Same as women being firefighters. If they can't pass the physical aspects of the test, they have no business being in job.

Do you know the difference between a woman w/ PMS and a terrorist?

Women have served in combat before throughout history when push came to shove.
But, I don't think this nation can stomach the full impact and consequence of women in combat. In short, there is no need for them to be in combat and therefore they shouldn't be.
