I often wonder what we would have had heard from him and others like Jim Morrison if they were still alive
And mrvette either you are 12 years old or joking I hope.

I had tons of other crap going on, and only a vague recollection of that happening, but that Chapman guy's name rang a vague bell......I was starting my best job ever as an employee, traveling, security systems, engineering work....so I was consumed with my own life then.....

Not really a fan of Lennon, probably my least favorite Beatle, but he did not deserve to go out that way, Chapman is a coward, he should be dead already.

There's a lot of people out there that claim he was an asshole. I never really understood why everyone lionized the guy to begin with.

Still, getting gunned down is bullshit.

As soon as you're born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool
Till you're so ****ing crazy you can't follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
When they've tortured and scared you for twenty-odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still ****ing peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
There's room at the top they're telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
If you want to be a hero well just follow me
If you want to be a hero well just follow me

I wasn't a huge fan of any of their post Beatles work, but he was very talented and died much too young.

I remember when I first heard he was shot (did not know he died) I actually thought he was "shot at" and thought it was a publicity stunt for his new album. Shameful of me.

I remember years ago when there was a radio tribute, all the radio stations were supposed to play Imagine, all over the world, all at the exact time. Not sure if this was it, but it was kind of, I don't know....moving? Eerie? Something, flipping from station to station and hearing the same song played.

Quote:
Imagine is broadcast around the world

On the 50th anniversary of John Lennon’s birth, his 1971 song ‘Imagine’ is broadcast simultaneously by approximately 1,000 radio stations in over 100 countries.

The broadcast originated from the United Nations building in New York City, and was introduced by Marcela Pérez de Cuéllar, the wife of UN secretary general Javier Pérez de Cuéllar. The short programme also included an excerpt from an archive interview with Lennon.

The initiative was conceived with the involvement of Yoko Ono, who said: “I wanted to provide a way for John’s fans to do something together, but, at the same time, I wanted it to be original and simple.”

You know you're getting old when orchestras start playing music composed during the time your actually grew up:

Prague Orchestra plays with A Flock of Seagulls

Having said that, after a quick calculation of your age from the birthday thread, it seems you were alive when some of the actual classical composers, Handel, Dvorak, Grieg, etc. were composing.

I remember well when that happened. A sad day for music world. It also ended any possibility of a reunion. May he rest in peace and be blessed by God.
