That I raised the ceiling in the garage and install a 4 post lift. Had renovation budget for it. First week in the year, and I discover that the A/C wasn't cooling that well. So, I call my AC guy. Dual compressor lost a contact and some other part, froze the low speed compressor. New compressor time, but wait, the new compressor for this unit won't be compatible if my 17 year old air handler takes a dump. So that could be $3500 down the tubes. So, makes sense to replace it all. Burned up the yearly renovation budget within the second week of the year.

So I have a new 20 seer varible speed 5 ton unit on order. Not sure when they can get it, inventory is low due to plant shut downs due to Covid. Happy New Year. Better to get it done before I retire.

Wow! I'm still running two 12 seer 3 ton, only one speed a/c's that are almost 25 years old. 20 seer? That must be friggen' efficient as heck. You should expect to see some energy savings out of that this Summer.

Up until yesterday I've had two family members in ORMC there near you. Dad and Gma...dad there for covid and gma there for pretty much everything but coma and were not even two weeks into this shit show.

We are pretty effiecient now. A few years ago we replaced all of the windows with argon filled, double pain and blew in r30 value insulation. I rarely see a power bill over $200.

i hope you trust this guy implicitly. Sounds a little fishy. for reference, i own a commercial hvac company. the scenario you posted is not impossible, but seems unlikely.

Yes, known him for years. My son worked for him all thru high school. The incompatability issue is due to the new freons in use today.
