Sorry Areovette. Lots of people are going to find themselves in this situation.
If all that can be done is to treat at home and we're not even contemplating being able to reduce the number of infected, we're just slowing the time it takes to infect everyone. What good is the isolation?

Why are they not publishing any numbers about severely infected that have recovered?

I want to see numbers/stats that are apples to apples comparisons. Not conjecture or comparisons to the flu when the flu stats aren't based on confirmed cases, they are based on reported cases.

Seems to me that the medical community isn't overwhelmed with Corona cases but with morons that think they have it.

Jeff,

I'm in a similar situation, taking care of an elderly parent with medical problems, at home. You don't want to get sick, because you don't want to give it to your parents, and you don't want to be down yourself because somebody has to look after them. Having said that, I don't think you qualify, under any of the announced thresholds, for testing.

My advice is, just take care of yourself and be mindful about hand washing, touching your face, etc. I know when I get home, the first thing I do is go to the sink and wash my hands, leaving some soapy water on the tap to kill anything I might have left on it.

Personally, I'm trying to be careful and mindful, but life has to go on. A while back, I stocked up on aspirin, ibuprofen, and got a few boxes of cold and flu tablets, which seems to be the only thing you can do besides sleeping and eating well to fight off the Wu flu or regular ol' seasonal crud. If you need some oft that, I've got a little extra I can run over to you, or if you need food delivery, whatever.

Two part answer to the bolded....They know that many healthy people can fight it off, and they are trying to avoid panic at the hospitals like happened elsewhere.

I have answered this many times, just read the threads. <face palm>

CLIFFS: people that do not feel sick must also isolate because many young, healthy, asymptomatic people are spreading this.

Unlike the flu, where you feel sick, AND you are contagious.

Your lungs fill pneumonia/fluid and you drown in said fluids, research ARDS: With COVID this can occur rapidly, over 24 hours or slowly over 14 days. In case you have not had the pleasure of witnessing, here you go.

Flattening the curve doesn't change the total numbers within it. Slowing the virus only prolongs how long it will take to infect the same number. Containment isn't an option anymore.

You tell me what types of things are you overwhelmed with at work right now? It's not the number of Covid19 cases is it?

Pretty soon if not already you'll be complaining about the lack of supplies. Nobody producing those supplies will not help you.

You guys are overwhelmed with the panic, not the cases.

Or maybe I'm wrong

there is a non-CV flu bug going around as well; has been since mid Jan.

That's why you must go through a Q&A when requesting to be CV tested; test kits still in limited supply. The Q&A is supposed to differentiate between the typical flu going around and CV.

this is what the media does not bother to mention; it does not help their "hype":

* there will be a group that contract a different flu strain, not CV. An attempt will be made early on to determine if it is CV flu or not CV flu (as to not waste a valuable test kit on a patient).

* there will be a group that contract CV and never show any symptoms; though they can pass it on to others.

* there will be a group that contract CV and get cold-like symptoms. The are not likely to miss work, nor get CV tested either; though they can pass it on to others.

* there will be a group that contract CV and have flu like symptoms. They may miss a day or two of work like any typical flu season... but they may or may not ever be tested for CV; they can also pass it on to others.

* there will be a group that contract CV and become very ill; requiring hospital stay. Sadly, some of this group may die from it.

Currently, the confirmed CV cases vs confirmed CV deaths is running 4.4% worldwide. A typical US flu season death rate is 1.5%.

Depending on their protocol you may not qualify for testing. In MOST cases, unless high risk and showing decline or respiratory distress, they may have you stay home.

I hope they get the rapid test soon!

Flattening the curve has nothing to do witj decreasing total numbers. Whom said it did?

We are inundated with all the above, positive cases, critically ill and trying to decide what to do with those critically
ill with non COVID related illness to keep tj
From getting exposed/infected.

Stick to starting fires Jet, I’m just trying to put some out and trying to make sure the extinguishers are full when the fire explodes.

I don't start fires, and I don't appreciate the implication.

Take a chill pill pal. What are you upset I implied?

Thought that was a running joke with you. Didn’t know it was a touchy subject.

Everything I said is still applicable about me putting out fires.

I haven't heard a thing from any medical professional that the actions they are taking will save lives. Can you make that statement? If so then I will agree that these efforts could be worthwhile. If they are simply delaying the inevitable at the expense of people later down the road then It's not worth the damage being done.

As far as the implication about me starting fires I've started to tire of it. My plant had an explosion roughly 2 years ago. Not in my dept. but it did injure some people and shut us down for a long time.

Sometimes I'm not in a joking mood, today seems to be one of those days. Don't mind my moment of sensitivity, it'll pass.

Go do what you do best and I wish you luck.
