Heya Sista Dawn!!

He's doing ok...not too happy with all this attention err riding he's getting
Been doing about 20 mins of groundwork to get him moving, then I'm on his back for about an hour...just walking maybe in 2 weeks I'll try trotting with him. Don't want to push him too hard off the start

That's not good. Hopefully you can get it before it gets you.

I'm thinking that muscles I've forgotten I have are going to be screaming at me tomorrow. Darrin and I picked up almost 70 of those blocks used to make retaining walls and 25 of the smaller decorative bricks yesterday. We mowed after we got home so they didn't get unloaded off the truck until today. Then I pulled up the 30 or so bricks that were the border around the tree I'm working on. I will regret this tomorrow.

Sounds like you're doing everything right for him though. Just don't forget the carrots and hugs and Auntie Dawn. By the end of the summer you guys will be running with the best of them.

I'm trying to do right by him He loved the carrots and the "Winnie's cookies" I gave him from you . I just don't want to push him too hard too soon. I know this will be a drawn out process, I'm guessing 2 months before I really see different in his top line.

Aw, Thor's a cutie!

If you keep going the way you are, you'll notice more than just his top line improving. I wish I had some good before and after pics of Lady. Before being when she was still at Frank's being the 'forgotten mare'. (She wasn't as exciting as the studs so she kind of got overlooked). And after I had her for a few months. After the exercise and TLC she looked like a different horse. It was definitely a labor of love.

I've been walking him bare back...don't know which saddle will be more comfortable for him the western or my english one when I move him up to trot. Which do you recommend?

I would think the western with a nice thick saddle bad. You might even get one of those special pads that go under the regular saddle pad made for horses that need to be 'built up', if that doesn't make it too thick. I think the English saddle might put more pressure along the top line. Of course you could just continue riding bare back!

Don't think I want to try trotting bare back....I see me spending time on the ground (there's not enough safety equipment to try that!)
I think the english is easier to trot with...but I'll manage with the western for his comfort

Where's your sense of adventure? I never used a saddle when I was a kid. I rode bareback until I bought my Palomino QH and started boarding at a regular stable. When I started working him for the show ring I had to use a saddle. But I see your point.

Yes, the first consideration must be his comfort. Just think of the upper body workout you get every time you hoist the western saddle up on his back!

Inconsiderate people. I had some older folks complaining to me about it. Must be the former police car I drive.
