Default Firestone repair charges are insane...

This is an experiment.... I dont usually "dual" post....but I just wanna see something....

My friend and neighbor took his '06 2wd Jeep Liberty to Firestone dealer to get an alignment. After having the vehicle all weekend, they finally call him and tell him the tie rods are frozen and they cant do the alignment. He asks how much to fix it? They say $500.00 to replace the tie rods. That is not only insane, but if they can replace them, that means they can loosen them...wtf? Long story short, we soak em in some lube and remove and replace both tie rods in less than an hour at a cost of 60 bucks.... Now I don't mind a company making some money, but five hundred bucks for a one hour job and parts less than 75 bucks is outrageous.

Alignment place tried to soak me for 300 extra bucks for camber bolts which are not needed on my car as struts are slotted and I extend the slots a tad before install. Told them take off the rack now cause I don't like being lied and cheated.
I haven't found a shop won't rip you off in decades.

I am lucky, have a good friend who owns a shop locally. Honest and has excellent mechanics.

Let’s see; your friend took an old rusty POS fake Jeep to a tire store for mechanical work, which isn’t very smart. Tire store gave him a high price because they don’t want to work on an old rusty POS fake Jeep. You saved your friend by doing it yourself for free, then post on social media whining about what he didn’t pay the tire store.

Does that pretty much cover it?

There is nothing about Firestone I like, Had Firestones on a '74 Camaro and within 500 miles all 4 blew out. I wouldn't even buy a condom named Firestone.

More about whether anybody cares that Zeek's neighbor didn't pay for a repair Zeek thought was too expensive. We don't.

Honestly, I don't see the problem here. If I take my car for an estimate, and I don't like the price, tell my neighbor about it, and that neighbor comes over and fixes my car for $0 labor cost? I'm left wondering when Zeek is moving to my neighborhood!

In reality, when it comes to lawn mowers and snow blowers, I seem to have become the Zeek of my neighborhood. I'm OK with it, because I believe that I have built up "borrowing equity" when my machines are down.

Luckily folks like the op are there to save businesses from making profit and overhead to cover the cost of doing business. Hopefully all stores close soon so they stop ripping people off.

Nobody is saying shop shouldn't make money.... But ass raping you over a minor repair is not acceptable.

Big difference between a fair price and getting gouged.

My FORMER mechanic gouged me and we're done. Inspection and emissions plus a few minor repairs plus installing rotors and brake pads on our 07 Tahoe.

Out of nowhere he decides to charge $640 in labor for the brake install with parts I supplied ( done many times before without problem). That's 7-1/2 hours at his normal labor rate.

His reasoning? "I need to make money somehow since you supplied parts".

Brake job cost almost $900

NEVER again
