Bailey has been in Puppy Obedience for 3 weeks now. She is now 6months old. We have never done this before. Always been an at home the basics all these years. Dogs sure can be much smarter than we give them credit for.

She has been learning an emergency word. This is where if they get away from you hauling ass through the neighborhood or somewhere. Calling out her name in a panic most of the time might not work so you come up with a word.

You practice at home with the dog sitting around or distracted a bit. You go hide somewhere in the house, call her name one time, then repeat the emergency word which was “Zorro” for us.

If all goes well, her name is an attention getter and the other word is for her react to return or find you, then when she does, you praise the fk out of her and some other than normal nice treats.

So yesterday we’re at class and was test time. The instructor has a 20ft leash hooked up so he can let the dog take off while he follows. My wife tells her to “wait” and she pretty much sat there. Wife goes to the other end of the store, down some aisle and hides.

She then yells out Bailey her ears went up but nothing, then Zorro 3 times and Bailey took off like a shot right to her. We’re only to practice this once a day so they do not get use to the word and ignore it but once they hear it, they return knowing they will get a nice treat.

If I'm reading this right, the dog now has two names.

When I call Wendel he just sits there and gives me the "what the **** do you want" look.
Then we both go back to do what we were doing.
It's something like this.

That's how I understand it. Never heard of this before but it works if trained right.

Sort of, One is her name , the other I guess means if I stop or return, I get a nice treat,

This is why you only practice once a day so the word does not become routine.
I remember with the other guys we had, call out out their name had the reaction of Kingpins but when I would holler out :treat" they came running

My son had an American boxer that he enrolled in obedience school.

The only good thing to come of the training, is that the guy (Oscar)
walked exceptionally well while on a leash. My 110 lb mother used
to dog sit Oscar (85 lbs), and could handle him well while on a leash.
Off leash, the guy was a Tazmanian devil, knocking people over
continuously. He relentlessly beat up out younger son. Oscar treated him
like a chew toy.

Other than leash training, no other redeeming qualities to that training.

We’ve had great success “socializing “ our pups. Once they’re used to others and people, obedience trading becomes a breeze.

There’s a great Veterinarian near us that offers free puppy social. Our two dogs just loved it and couldn’t wait for the weekly sessions.

Oh, my wife gives them a new nickname daily!

Firm, but fair. When you have 180 to 200 pound guard dogs, they have to respect you as alpha.

2) Treat, not Williams

Great, adopt a puppy for other to train it. If you don't mean a command, the dog will ignore you.
