when I was 18 in 1974 I bought my first car - a 1965 Mustang 260 4 speed vert for $500.

I sold the rust bucket about 2 years later for $600!!!

Also I always figured 1st Class was for Jews! That's the only way my wife flew back to West Palm every year having daddy pay for it. Too much family drama and she was not going to pay for that.

Bought a C7 Grandsport from Criswell in Dec 2019 for $55K. Drove the hell out of it on the track and around town for a year and a half and sold it in 2022 for $69.5K during the scamdemic.

This thread probably details my best one:

https://www.thevettebarn.com/forums/...ad.php?t=40369

Especially this part:
Quote:
Actually I did

I have been looking for a car like this for over 6 months, and I had an alert on Autotrader to text me every time a new one was listed. I got the alert on this one on Thursday afternoon, and when I pulled it up I literally said "that car for that price is too good to be true." I called the dealer and he sent me an Email about the car including the VIN and the Autotrader price.

I asked Ron C5 to go look it over, and he did and pronounced it good. At 9:00 Friday morning I called to put a deposit down and was told "the Autotrader price was wrong."

Turns out someone had entered the value they gave the guy for his trade in instead of the asking price.

I said "I have an Email from you offering to sell me the car with this VIN for this price, how do we resolve this?"

He went to go talk to his boss. A little while later he called back and said "To qualify for CPO status the car needs two new front tires. If you'll add the cost of those tires and our $800 dealer prep fee, we'll honor the quoted price."

SOLD!

The difference was slightly more than 20%.

On a side note, Mercedes of Orlando is a class act and I recommend them without hesitation.

A few lucky big hits at the casino, some good thrift store finds, some lucky ebay wins, I'd say the best find was an old Seiko turtle automatic in the thrift shop watch bin.

Back in the '80's I found this 34 3 window Ford coupe (one of the most prized hot rods) in a storage facility. Got it for 1200 bucks. Funny part is, the guy who helped me get it out was the owner of the storage. He was so pissed! He said he had been trying to buy it for years!

I saw one of these at a car show tubbed with a big block and blower.

It is not this, but very similar...

Not this one either...

Many years ago I had a friend who was a big Smith&Wesson guy. He bought a 6” Python because he thought he wanted it. He ran part of a box of shells through it and decided it wasn’t for him. He sold it to me for $300. Still have it and the original box it came in.

Probably 68 Firebird I got from a kid for 200 bucks. 400 engine think a 2 barrel.
That thing was a beast albeit a total rust bucket. Absolutely nothing worked right on it.
Best and worst car I've ever owned. Rear frame broke during an excessive noise exhibition so got rid of it for 500.

Went to the airport with a buddy last week and we found a perfectly good aircraft wheel and tire in the parking lot. Had English writing on it, so probably not an Airbus wheel. Went back with his lawn business trailer and picked it up. All that aluminum should add up at the recycling place ...
