Default this is the LAST major home project...

I am ever doing ! The easiest part was purchasing it

Had it stored in the garage for a year; finally started on it about 2 months ago. 3 speed exhaust fan with 4 LED lights.

couldn't get a good pic with the LED lights turned on.

About the only saving grace was that Yvonne likes to spackle, sand, & paint; so she took on those duties.

bought it from Amazon

All I have left to do is connect it to the existing range hood vent-pipe in the attic.

Installation would of been simple had this been new construction. But to tear down the old range hood fixture, change location of support wood pieces in the ceiling to accept the different size of the new hood, then drywall & spackle...

how do you reach the controls?

my hood said it should be mounted about 28" above the cooktop surface.

It's 6" lower than the one that was originally there.

It's not that high; must be the camera angles. Yvonne is 5'3" and chose the distance down from the ceiling soffit (originally - before we bought the house - there was a kitchen cabinet hanging there); so it's right where she wanted it and I didn't argue with her.

She can reach the controls...

this one said something similar. F*ck that; it was a "room divider" when we tried it that low. Major upgrade from what we had; massive motor running the fume extractor.

When wife and I married, almost 20 years ago, we decided to remodel the kitchen....so among the changes was an island range facing the dinner/living areas, and TV of course.....and needing a range hood, I looking around and they all wanted some 1200 bux PLUS for the hood.....screw THAT, bought a bunch of aluminum, me and a buddy who welds aluminum to concrete, laid it out on his garage floor, cut it out, and he welded it up into a hood, motor is an attic ventilator on roof.....~10" pipe and vent cap at hood.....

hood is 38" off counter/range so nice and high too see under it.....

Sell it; it's a trap !!!

there were two sizes of this particular; 30" and 36" wide. the 30" fit best for us. And there was wall mount and island versions.

Yeh, the only complaint far as I concerned is the vent motor/fan makes a rumbling noise....not really LOUD, but just annoying silliness.....being as it was not designed for used as a range hood, I just tolerate it, being a bitch to change it.....

When I moved into my house 11 years ago the sellers had renovated the kitchen.

It wasn’t till I moved in and found out the stove exhaust fan vented directly down into the basement.
I had to pay an HVAC guy to run ducting outside.

Whatever keeps mama happy

When my friend and his wife moved to their house, it had a gas stove that was three months old. She was sure it would blow up and burn the house down.

I was given the brand new gas stove. It was already set up for propane so it was a small fee for my propane supplier to hook it up.

Oh, guess who was over that winter when we lost electric for almost a week due to bad ice storm so they could cook

First thing we did after we bought this house two years ago was a complete gut and remodel of the kitchen. That included having propane piped in, new gas range installed and tossing the electric range in the trash.

Never heard of someone being afraid of a gas range.

My MIL is... Refused to have gas heat in house when central heat/ac was installed (previous had electric baseboard heat). Costs them a fortune in the winter, they didn't know heat pumps don't work much below freezing amd when "emergency strips" come on holy shit they drive the bill up.

Yep, I grew up in a house with old-school cast-iron baseboard heat.
The whole house was always hot and toasty no matter what.
The walls were always warm to the touch and the radiators stayed warm even when the boiler was off.

Moved into this shithole with electric heat pump heat.
Always drafty heat with really inconsistent temp depending on what room.

We had whole house hot water also, quiet even heat. Forced air furnaces suck in comparison.
I had an oil Furnace last house which down here meant maybe 100 gallons used a winter.

My builder totally borked the vent installation. I had to redo it with metal flex tubing to match the ridiculous offset from the dumbasses making the hole in the wrong place. They originally had the holes set up putting the stove right beside the refrigerator. Gas lines and everything had to be tweaked and a cabinet put between the two. The gas line is in the back of the cabinet. They were the "D" team.

True enough. There are $1M and up houses near me. I went walking through them while being built. Same bullshit talent building those houses, just bigger. And more expensive materials being fkd up. I saw the same crap I saw in my house.
