You'll have to earn your beer, because I live 250 miles NE of Mt. Rushmore in the northeastern part of SD.

Needles Highway is nice, but Iron Mountain Road traveling north from Custer State Park to Mt. Rushmore is nicer because of the one-way tunnels that you can see Mt. Rushmore through them and the wooden pig-tail bridges. The mangey ol' cat in a Miata sounds like my dentist!!! That is what he drives.

Holy cow, that is NE of the Indian Reservation, and very close to ND.

35 miles south of the ND border. That's why I can sympathize with Sweets and why I listen to the ND weather forecast:

We have a resident member of the Arkansas law enforcement community on here who had the unfortunate lack of foresight that comes with admitting to us that he once owned a Miata. He insists he was under the influence of BBQ'd possum and home made 'Shine....but we have our doubts.

In all seriousness....visited SD in 2010. Beautiful up there. But I bet it gets nasty cold in the winter....

Thanks. Since I got my 1st Vette last November I have been spent many hours reading various forums (the Barn, CF, Corvette C4 Registry, and CorvetteGuru to name a few). The Barn and its members (who can dish it out and take it as well) impressed me the most. You all have also reinforced my belief that the C4 was an excellent choice for me. Now I just hope this nOOb can live up (or down as the case may be) to the standards of the Barn crew!

I do believe Mikey. Taurus investigated, and he is addicted to possum.

We do have a lot of variety in the state, from many lakes in the eastern part like Minnesota, to the prairies where I live, to the walleye fishing on Lake Oahe on the Missouri River in the center, to the wide open spaces of the west river ranches, and finally the mountainous spruce and pine forests of the Black Hills. BUT we also get down to -20 F in the winter on occasion. That is one of the reasons I had to build a sauna for my wife of Norwegian heritage. Maybe I need to wise up and become a snowbird next winter.

Great, if anyone finds me shot by the side of the road in Arkansas, look for a LEO in a Miata with a really bad Pox.

Yeah, there's a stretch of the I-15 corridor we recommend avoiding. It's infested with hippies.

Im a little late as usual, welcome to the barn Mr Barondeau.
I took a trip around the US back in 74 and still remember going through South Dakota. Back then my travel vehicle was a 72 Pantera. When leaving Mt Rushmore I remember how strange the country looked , it reminded me of anthills or maybe stalagmites sticking up from the ground and looked like another planet...I still have pictures of my Pantera sitting in front of some of the strange looking rock formations .In 1974 I spent 9 months traveling around the US and made sure I hit every state, that was a good year for me......WW
