Default Meguiars Ultimate Compound

Gents....

The hood on Marco was getting kind of hazy....the clear coat was getting dull. The car has the original paint which is in decent shape, it was just starting to fade. I tried THIS stuff...

HOLY SHIT! $10 a bottle, but amazing stuff. I hand polished the hood, and followed it with a simple paste wax. Hood looks literally new again.

Pic was taken in bright mid day sun, and shows reflections of clouds, trees, etc.....but it looks amazing in person. Paint looks literally new, almost glass like. I wholeheartedly endorse this stuff.....

I have been using it ever since I got the C4. I also use it on the C6 but don't tell the guys on CFC6. They will ban me for not using Zaino.

I went to Harbor and bought a buffer. Going to try it on our very faded '96 F150. Will do half the hood and post results.

Sounds like a mild compound or a one step compound. Meguires compounds actually break down to finer grit to avoid excessive cutting. One of the popular product combinations is Meg 105/205 Ultra Cut compound/glaze finish polish. I always forget which number is which, but this is mail order or automotive paint supply only product. You have to use it with a machine polisher to really make it work.

Anyhow even if you over cut with a compound and leave some hologram swirls, light marring or whatever, that's where you clean it up with a fine polish step. I totally rescued my black paint job after investing in a porter cable DA orbital polisher and a collection of foam buffing pads.

Friz, I also bought one of the Harbor Freight buffers when they had them on sale for like $29.95.. I found out that with my paint job I can't use a buffer, even at the lowest speed without getting swirl marks. I tried both the wool bonnet and the soft foam pads. I ended up buffing the car out by hand..."Your car looks great" , if only our black cars stayed looking nice , but a few hours after cleaning them is "all we get".....WW

The truck had a cheap single stage respray in 2003. It looked good for about 4-5 years, but it's dark green and sits in the sun all the time (well, except at night )

The paint is now 100% flat....zero gloss. ANYTHING will make it look better. It's daily driven and 100% reliable, it just looks like hell. I can't justify even $1500 for paint on a $2500 truck. Besides, what if the painter is a hippie and paints a red stripe on top of the door?

I did a square foot of the hood by hand with the Meguiars.....amazing results. If the buffer swirls it, BFD.....it will still look much better. I will do the rest of the Vette when I have time by hand.

My 2001 F-150 Crew Cab has the same issue with the paint. The clear coat has come off especially on the roof and hood after all these years sitting in the sun. Looks like $hit, but the truck runs great. I was thinking about having it painted, but don't have the $$$ now that my last kid is off to college and costing me $1000/month for room and board.

The clear coat is peeling on the Mustang, and it's down almost to metal on the roof. I just haven't managed a GAF, especially when I have so much fun driving the Corvette. I might buy cheap ass spray paint for the roof just to keep it from rusting.

Or just start calling it a rat rod
