I just picked up one of these bad boys 3 weeks ago. I've been stalking it for years and wasn't comfortable buying gray (especially from jomashop) so I just happened to be looking around for it and Macys had it on sale for the first time ever. So I pulled the trigger.

I can’t see spending that much money on a watch even if I had the money. But they are very cool!

Rolex watches are of questionable quality. I bought one in Qatar back in the mid 2000's, and that thing fell apart, wouldn't wind right etc. Heck, I paid $35 for the damn thing. I could have gotten a Casio at Wal Mart that would have lasted longer.

Bummer. Quality was kinda sketchy in those days.

I figured I'd better get some good shot's before she beat the hell out of it.

That's a really nice photo, of a really nice watch. My wife would love the purple.

I haven't worn a watch since I retired ~6 years ago, but decided to wear this today. It's no Rolex, but I always liked it. (I just realized the date's wrong.)

Ex-brother-in-law was in China on a business trip. Came back with a fake Rolex. He knew I had a Sub and wanted to see if I could tell if his watch was real or not, so he wore it when I visited him and my sister and waited until we were all eating at a restaurant to spring his question on me.

"So, do you like my new Rolex watch?"

"It's not a Rolex."

The look on his face was like "Challenge accepted!" He said "Why would you say such a thing? Of course it's real."

"Second hand gives it away, it's like a Timex."

He was like "What?" I thrust my hand towards him so he could contrast and compare. Once the difference was seen, it could not be unseen. Never saw him wear it again.

He did admit to paying $50 for it, which was amusing in and of itself.

I bought some fake Oakley sunglasses in Ensenada once and no one ever noticed they were fake. Paid $5 bucks for them.

The telltale ticking of a fake Quartz powered Rolex is something rarely seen anymore since even fake Rolex use mechanical movements. They are often Miyota or other Asian generic mechanical movements. Nonetheless they still have beat rates that are anywhere from 21,600 to 28,800 bph. Telling a fake from a ticking seconds hand is largely apocryphal.

Oh, it wasn’t by any means jerky, but when held side by side was so very obvious. Plus it was a really not very good fake in general. The gold color of the band was the first giveaway for me, my then boss had one with a gold band, totally different.

Also, ‘twas 20 years ago.

I had a fake Daytona with an actual Automatic Chronograph Movement. I bought it as more of a novelty than anything else...purchased it a number of years ago through Yahoo Auctions Singapore (which is now defunct I think). All of the functions worked as they should, but I knew that wouldn't last long...I never wore it, just thought it was tacky to do so. However...

It was actually fairly hefty. I don't remember how much I gave for it, but I passed it off to a Lodge brother who was enamored with it for like 50 bucks, which (I think) was less than I paid. I told him it was fake and not to come crying to me if it broke. He wore it daily for several weeks and it finally broke. He actually tried to get me to give him his money back...I told him to **** off.
