Default That was more fun than I should be allowed to have

Oil pressure gauge started going wonky on the 04 Suburban with a 5.3L Borrowed the correct socket for the sending unit from Chris at work and started about 2:00 PM

I figured, "how hard can it be", I checked out YouTube University and figured, yeah I can do this.

The sending unit is at the middle of the block in the back basically under the firewall. Well , it seems the videos I watched the guys doing it had smaller hands than I do. Bear paws make this an extremely frustrating job.

After jamming my right hand behind the fuel lines for almost three hours,( while laying across the engine bay ) I got the new sending unit installed but no joy on the little plug that snaps in place.

Tomorrow I go to my mechanic who I bribed with a $20 bill to plug it in. That will be money well spent ( then we'll talk guns for a while )

Don't you love stuff like that that goes in as part of the assembly leaving minimal ability to work on it.

Probably can get a recommendation from Aero on a shop to do a full rebuild on that engine.

Planned obsolescence. As the vehicle ages simple repairs can "total" it.

I feel you pain Jeff. I'm getting ready to do headers on the "new" F250 V10. Ford heavy truck engineers were surely sadists.

Before that I've been working on replacing the entire stereo. One of the 2 factory amps (POSs) bricked before I got the truck.

Now replacing all 8 speakers and sub with amp/DSP; which of course means all new wire runs to all speakers....

Why not cut the connectors off and use the existing wires?

Because the new wires have to go from the new amp/DSP.

Head unit > amp/DSP via RCA outputs > to each speaker which is individually tuned by the processor. Tweets are crossed over ~2500 Hz.

Also, auto manufacturers use 18-20 gauge wire; fine for tweets but adds resistance for longer runs (15' +) and limits frequency response.
Doesn't look like much on paper but back to back comparisons are incredible, especially in the bass below 150 Hz where most of the punch is.

Headers on the new stuff is a BIG pain. All I'll suggest is checking reviews for which manufacturer seem to have less problems.

The older I get, the more 'stuff' I simply remove to access the inaccessible. The old days of 'powering through' and 'working around' are over. In your case, depending on location, I may have just dropped the trans crossmember and let the engine tilt down, etc. It takes a lot more time, but I get to keep the skin on my hands and arms. Of course, I have a lift, so doing stuff from 'underneath' is sometimes the best solution.

No lift YET. My wife just suggested getting rid of the shed and getting a multi car garage for both the machine tools I have plus storage. So a lift may be in my future.

This thread reminds me why I sold my avatar project on. 4 or so years in and in sight of the end, the hood release cable on the 77 gave it up. I ordered a new one and while I waited for the part I spent 3 hours removing the 2 bolts that held the handle to the cage in. Then I spent 2 WEEKS of lunch hours trying to reinstall the 2 bolts which retain said cable whereupon I ended up sending a Snap-On 7/16 wrench into the woods and declaring my project at an end. Sold that POS on and never looked back.
