There are several High Schools close to where I live. One of the things I make sure not to do is ride my bike during the times when school is letting out. Nothing worse than having a shit ton of inexperienced drivers on the road thinking they are race car drivers or who are distracted with god-knows-what. It's even worse to be on a bike around them.

I take exception with your opinion. I have less morons pulling out in front of me ( while on the motorcycle ) when I ride with my high beam ON during the day.

I will continue to ride with my highbeam ON during the day.

Call me what you want but high beams are highly recommended by the PA State Police

Sorry about your wife's vision problems. Maybe you want to see about getting the newer style of brighter lights done away with on the cars too.

In regards to the highbeams being on during the day, I went to an advanced riders seminar two weeks ago. ( part of the MSF ) One of the persons taking the class was a PA State Trooper. He said it is HIGHLY recommended for ALL motorcyclists to ride with their highbeams on during the day.

I wasn't calling you anything. I was asking. I am curious because we have a ton of cycles in my little town and they are quickly becoming a nuisance. When I say nuisance, I mean they all want to get really loud exhaust and rev the engine when ever they get the chance, which is a bitch when it's two in the morning on a school night for my kids. They also want to load up and cruise the local park, no problem except they want to park sideways across two parking spaces for each bike and talk. The cops are writing tickets left and right, the city has a noise ordinance and the cops are enforcing the hell out of it now because of the problems. The funny thing is, most of this outlandish behavior is being committed by the Harley crowd and the cruising bikes. The sport bikers have been pretty decent.

BTW, isn't it against the law to drive with your highbeams on, when it blinds or impairs other drivers? So, if this is true, then the PA State Police are advising you to break the law? Interesting. Doubtful, but interesting.

BTW:

Quote:
PA Motor Vehicle Code Section(s) 4306(A) and 4306(B) require that you dim your headlamps at 500' as you approach a vehicle from the front and 300' as you approach a vehicle from the rear. This is considered a "moving violation" and as such points are assigned for the violation.

Number of motorcyclists killed by people who claim that they "didn't notice them": A sh!tload.

Number of motorcyclists killed by people who claim that the motorcycle blinded them: Virtually none.

I and all my biker friends will continue to use high beams during the day as recommended by the Canadian Safety Council. And If it irritates a small percentage of 4-wheel drivers (who don't notice bikes or much else) and saves my life, that's a good trade. Whiners STFU!

I didn't read all of the replies but in our case (the wife and I) I don't use my highbeams except at night when no vehicles are coming toward me...my lights are bright and I don't want to blind anyone just like I don't want to be blinded.

However in my wife's case...she rides an R6 Yamaha sportbike and only one headlight comes on when the lights are not on bright so during the day she does run her highbeams and I told her to do it. Anything that helps you be seen is good and during the day it does not blind anyone. I hate that they designed them this way because when not running her highbeams...she is told constantly that she has a headlight out which is not the case.

At night she only uses the highbeams when no traffic is coming toward her just as I do.

I sometimes do it because it's hard to see at night with my tinted visor.

If they can't see you during the day with your driving light on what makes you think your HB is going to make any difference.

Don't take the term moron personally, everybody knows that I only refer to non-forum members in that manor.
