About the same in any disaster zone that involves money/aid. Sad part of the human condition.
My father's company had offices in a fair number of other countries and the stories that came back on ALL of them were virtually identical.

I think all we can achieve is on a very small level that would involve organizing people and resources to maximize the available monies.
Hell, I don't expect we'd get to do much more than help 1 small community get started on the rebuild process.

Well, looking at the track the storm took on the Hong Kong Observatory site, the eye of the storm stayed well north of the island that Tim is on. While he still was hit with high winds and storm surge it is not as bad as passing in and out of the storm center.

In all probability he was hit between 6 and 10 feet of surge and his house has, at best, only 3 feet (actually 1 meter) of sea wall. Accordingly, his entire house could have been swept out to sea. Since we do not know if he took the prudent course and went to the same shelter as his family or if he attempted to secure his house we can only wait until he either comes back on the net or until someone can contact him. However, reports are showing that the cell infrastructure took major damage (towers down all over the place) so it may be a while before we can hear from him.

For those people looking to head to the Philippines to assist in the recovery (especially Dixievette) let us know if additional financial support is needed and we will see if we can scrounge up a few more bucks to go with the Christmas funds. Looks like the urchins are really going to need some cheering up this year.

It looked to me like the eye went right over his island.

The red dot is where I think his island is and the storm passed right over it.

If that's correct, he took a direct hit. Damn.

I hope he and his family are safe.

I thought he was on the island to the northwest of Negros, i.e., Panay in which case he should have ducked some part of the storm.

On the other hand, if he is on the island of Bantayan it appears to be only a meter or so above the seas and any storm surge would be sufficient to destroy virtually anything not made of reinforced concrete on a 20' footing.

Hope Tim and family pulled through this storm successfully.

i recall pics he posted of his place, wood and woven reeds basically, just sitting on the sand, maybe 3 meters up from low tide. doubt there is much left of the village. not good.
