Judging by that article, the restrictions are only on vehicles registered as classic cars. Am I wrong in assuming that if you just register it with normal plates the restrictions don't apply?

dotguv is FUBAR. My tags expire today, just received the one for the bike yesterday, it shows a model year 20 years older than it's supposed to be. How'd the dumb asses screw that up?

My truck tags haven't arrived in the mail yet and I'm scheduled to do some hauling tomorrow.... So if you never hear from me again you'll know what happened. Watch the headlines

At least the Vette tags were correct. Apparently we're to consider getting one out of three correct as good work for liberals.

I believe that to be correct. NJ has had an even more restrictive law on the books for decades. If you register your car as a classic (the "QQ" plates), you may only drive it on public road for exhibition or educational purposes, meaning, to and from car shows. The law specifically states "no joyriding". This is why I registered my '70 Corvette with "regular use" plates, as far as the state is concerned, I can drive it whenever and wherever I want.

I initially had Hagerty insurance, but they got unhappy that I didn't have it registered as a classic, so I changed to Grundy. Grundy has use restrictions (can't be a daily driver, can't be used as back-up transportation, etc.), but I have no problem complying with them, so I have been happy so far.

My corvette has collector plates, with the only restrictions being it cannot be driven on the road during the month of January (there is a 10 day exception fee if needed), cannot haul over 500lbs(if a truck), and I must own at least 1 other annually licensed vehicle. It also must be at least 20 years old.

Now, in Wi., if the car was not manufactured with an ODBII port, it is not smog tested. Smog testing is only required in certain Counties (near more populist areas-larger cities)

Makes perfect sense, if you think about it....

Classic cars are part of our shared heritage. Things that bond us together. Unless you have a resto-mod, you probably aren't daily driving your classic car, the presumed point of antique auto plates.

So, the system developed a policy, you all know what the requirements are and purposely disregard them and now upset for them cracking down on it?

IDK, but because of the snow & cold, my car is put away in late Nov until March or so. I should also ad that these plates are a one-time registration fee ($170.00), and never expire. I transferred my current plate from my sold '85 to the '76 I now have it on (cost me $160.00 to transfer)

Antique plates in Wi are a different restriction, meant truly for Antique vehicles.
They can only be driven on Sundays. Must be pre-WWII manufactured.

Just having to go through the hoops to register as a classic car versus a regular car is ridiculous. stupid as one can get.

A tempest in a teacup, classic car owners are getting long in the tooth and a whole bunch of these cars are lightly driven, meticulously maintained and are less polluting than cow flatulence:

Let's see how long these bureaucrats go without hanburgers...

It's just garden variety harassment of people interested in keeping history alive. Certainly it isn't addressing any systemic problem.

Yeah, a few states like that.
Right Steve-R?

[Google] Only eight states have no personal income tax:

Wyoming.
Washington.
Texas.
Tennessee.
South Dakota.
Nevada.
Florida.
Alaska.

I moved to NJ in 1986, and I remember folks freaking out saying the state wanted to "take away" classic cars. 36 years later, the rules haven't changed a bit, no one's classic car has been taken away, and AFAIK, there are no plans to change the rules.

People always want something for nothing, and bitch when they don't get it. They want one-time registration that never expires, and exemption from vehicle inspection, they get it with antique registration, but it comes at a cost = restricted use. Want unrestricted use of your classic like I have? Pay the annual registration, and comply with applicable inspection rules like I do. It really is that simple.
