Now you see, if you asked me who here has something I’ve made, I’d draw a blank after 3-4 names. I’ve made so many…. Some I got paid for, some were gifts. Eh, my bills are paid. I’m glad to hear you still enjoy it.

Most are lined with Spanish Cedar like he made for me. Not sure why but he researched it.

Precisely. Make a box. Line it with Spanish cedar and install a purchased humidifier and hygrometer. Any trays in the box should have slots milled in them to promote even air flow within the box.

While I have never made a humidor myself, I have a huge slab of Spanish cedar that has been in my shop for more than 15 years now. One day... no sense rushing into these things.

Doug, I think I got a chessboard style cutting board from you long time ago,....and last year, I saw it at my daughter's house.....been used, setting on edge drying.....

but those boards with strange looking 'rims' with corners open early in this thread.....why that design?? how is that open ended edging used??

RIF.

these are not cutting boards, these are, as the thread title notes, "Charcuterie" boards, boards for putting munchies on for display and consumption, like at a party or wedding (also referenced above). think veggies with dip, nuts, candy, cured/smoked meats (not for Vegans though), cheeses (again, not for Vegans)....finger food.

you can cut items on these boards, say if you had a large chunk of cheese and a nearby knife, to whack off some for crackers also on the same board.

the borders keep things from falling off the sides, allow more stuff to be placed on the board, allow the prepared boards to be stacked for transport, and allow the prepared boards to be covered with cling wrap (Saran wrap), without squishing the food items.

all explained above, and now explained again....

Gene, a charcuterie board is for serving food. Meats, cheeses, fruits, nuts, spreads, dips, breads, crackers, etc.

Sometimes people do dessert charcuterie boards, as well. On thanksgiving, I do a savory board for before dinner and a dessert board with a spread of mini desserts.

Mmmmm. I see what looks to be caviar, mortadella, olives, gherkins, cheese... All my favorite things.

DAB, would you consider taking on a cutting board commission?

I have a plan for a board but lack the skills and equipment to produce it.

yeah, dimensions are good to know.

i've made several over time, and have settled on about 11x14x1-3/4" to 2" as a good size for most uses. if you have a design in mind, or favored wood type, let me know. if you can draw it on graph paper, i can likely make it. so start sketching. if you have time, you can do a search on this forum for cutting boards in old threads and get some ideas of what i've done.
