Default can a contractor be held accountable for someone being late to work?
if the contractor is working on the road outside a house, and knocks the electricity out at 6:25am, and causes the person to be late to work?

just asking...

While you can sue for any reason you want, you'll get laughed out of court by the judge.

That said, no, everyone is responsible for keeping themselves on schedule. Barring extreme circumstances (like a natural disaster, or a 747 falling out of the sky directly in your path) if you're late, it is your fault.

I see where this is going to be going...

yes, my electricity went out because the road workers smacked the transformer with thier back hoe, I know because I asked them, since normally I get a little flyer on my door that my power will be from xx:xx to xx:xx.

No, I wasn't late to work because I set my phone's alarm "just in case"
There is no intention to sue or anything else.

it's merely a question.

yes, and I believe you can sue the person in front of you in a traffic jam as well, make sure to get their license plate number
