If I do mistakenly pick up a scam call, I politely let Habib know I plan to masturbate through the duration of the call. That usually gets them to hang up and I now get maybe 1-2 scam calls per month, if that.

I'm almost disappointed that I never got that one. They kept going and going and going with the TV provider scam. Different scammer groups all using the same exact scripts....pay us a lump sum up front and we'll not charge you for so many months going forward, and they you'll be charged a discounted rate after that.

Well Hell, sign me up! I mean, I don't have cable TV, but who could turn down such a gracious offer? Really.

They were very sensitive, though, as if you deviated slightly from what they expected their victim to say, they hung up. Took quite a few calls to get as far as the actual scam pitch, just to figure out what they were trying to do.

The Indiians (or any other type of humans) are not the ones making the calls - they have robot dialers that dial every phone number in an exchange, wait for someone to answer, and then transfer the call to a human operator.

Robo-dialers are like Terminators: they can't be reasoned with, they can't be bargained with, and they absolutely will not stop - EVER!

Update:

This is the real deal. Robocalls don't ring through. I think maybe a handful of times the phone has rang from a scammer, but, even then, those jerks won't say their name, or anything, they must follow the prompt to press the pound key. So I have heard the phone ring, but with no announcement, I simply didn't answer the call.

And now, a year later, I see the scam call volume seems to have dropped to an average of about 2-7 a day, down from up to 20/day or more. Bless their hearts, they still try with reduced frequency, but they just can't get through.

Combine this with the fix I discovered for my cell, that blocks "suspected spam" calls from ringing or even appearing on the caller ID, and I'm virtually spam free. It's nice.

I upgraded my old Samsung S9 in March with a Google Pixel 8 Pro. I've noticed reduced spam calls, and if one gets through, the Pixel phone has a message that the call might be spam.

My phone is probably 20 years old now so no blocking technology. Family is programmed in for speed dial and their name shows on the caller ID if/when they call. I can see it from where I sit. About 95% of the time there is no name, just a bunch of numbers. Then there's 4% listed as being a call from some city I've never been to. The final 1% is my dad calling and if not for that I wouldn't even own a phone.

If I’m in the mood I like to string them along as long as possible until they get so annoyed they hang up. You need new windows? Hell yeah I need new windows. Waste my time I’ll waste yours. My wife thinks I’m weird. I think it’s hilarious.



Also unknown callers show as “scam likely”. I don’t answer if I’m not in the mood to fk with them and let it go to vm.
