wondering IF there has been a software mess and me turning it off when storms run through........shit is starting to really piss me off, between various storms/lightening/losing modems/TV HDMI inputs, and crap....

Yeah don't buy any LOL. They like using proprietary components in their builds. That means you have to deal with Dell directly to get replacement parts like power supplies etc. If you have a free slot on the mobo, you can try to install a card in one of those empty slots and disable the on-board sound.

Do headphones work if you plug them in?

Have you tried updating the drivers?

What is the 461MNN1? Model #? Serial #?

Mine doesn't have anything proprietary that I've seen every time I've opened it.
They usually use Intel mobo's, but you can get only drivers for it from Dell.

Like the article above states, they have gotten better, but the ones I work on are old - greater than 5+ years.

Go to Dell's support site with that, and it tells you everything about that PC...
(which is something I do frequently with work PCs.)

Says it was a Dell Inspiron 560s from November 2010, with a 1 year warranty.
Intel E5700 CPU, 3G RAM, 500G disk, Win-7 HP.

... which is a quite reasonable Home PC from that era.

Glad you got it fixed...
