Default I got out Ole Faithful today and took a drive...

Ole Faithful is my '67 Vette Roadster:

I call her that because she's an almost totally original car except for new paint and seat covers, and she never causes any problems (knock on wood). Low mileage (47K), original carpet, engine and transmission never rebuilt. Automatic transmission, both tops, PS, A/C, 327/300, bolt-on wheels, and factory side pipes, which is odd for a small block with automatic transmission.

She always cranks right up and unlike body-off restorations she's tight and rattle free. I think why she's superior in that respect is that when we do a body-off restoration, we're so careful about not applying too much caulk in the body seams, glue on weatherstrip, etc. that we lose the sound deadening that generously applied factory sealers give. Of course with side pipes I may not be hearing any rattles....

She's a pleasure to drive: Tracks beautifully, suspension is tight and firm, shifts just right, and everything works. And those side pipes, while they take a bit of getting used to, are music to my ears! When you floor-board her, all Hell breaks loose it seems! It's not like 435 HP, but it's certainly ample.

Tomorrow I'll wax the bumpers, wipe down the engine compartment (still very clean after all these years), clean and vacuum the interior. The off we'll go again! The local police recognize me when I'm on the road, and they never give me a problem because they know I'm a good driver and that I hold it down when I'm in the City. The only time I get stopped is because they want to look at the car.

Why don't y'all post some pics and stories about your Vette? It'd be a good change of pace for VBOT.

That's a rare mid year with those mile on it Larry......you should be using it a LOT more. My 66 was originally a 300hp as well. Great motor.
You've all seen my 62 that I've owned for 40 years but just to refresh.....base 250hp 327, 4 sp. borg warner T10, 4.11 gear, custom walnut steering wheel and matching shift knob on Hurst, New....interiour, paint, rebuilt trans, soft top added, hard top in storage, 68 vette rally wheels with 66 hubcaps. One of my babies....
When I got it driving through the Rockies (last shot), after I restored it, interiour, and how it looks today.

.....rarest color. Not popular with the younger buyers. Guess they all wanted red. FB is my favourite too.

Long time ago, there was a woman who lived in a small town not far from me. Her husband died and left her a C2 Vette, black with silver coves, red interior, fuel injected; that's a pretty color combo, but I'd still prefer a Fawn Beige '62.

Anyway, she drove the car occasionally, perhaps to honor her late husband, but every 6 months or so the engine would start to run rough. She'd take it to the dealer that her late husband bought it from, and they'd simply "blow it out" with some pedal-to-the-metal (fiberglass) drives, and it'd then run perfectly smooth.

Perhaps an old story, but this one is true. I've visited with her on several occasions and driven the car. I wonder what happened to her car.

Also, an older guy I knew in school got a '61 Vette as a graduation present from his parents: White, red interior, both tops, fuel injected. He's in a nursing home now (if he's still alive), but as of 10 years ago he still had the car. I also wonder what happened to his car.

You've got the time now to track it down. It may be just sitting there.

Drove my 66 up to Memphis last weekend for the Hot Wheels on Beale show. It's around 400 miles one way. Won a top 10 trophy which is 4 feet tall.

My 327/300hp 4 speed is rock solid and I drive it all over the southeast. Went over 61,000 miles on this trip, had 45,000 when I bought it in 2011.

My old 66 was hot rodded by me in the 70s. It made it into the Corvette News magazine in 76. I was about 18!

Midnight blue at first, then pearl white......

You have a sweet ride!!

I have had my 67 since 1994. I have made a few changes along the way to make sure there are no problems when we drive it out of state, which is almost every year. This is only the second season it has missed the trips. I had a couple of problems getting it home from a Burlington, VT, NSRA event last year and have been working to correct the issues. I'm still pulling down 60 hr. weeks as V.P. of manufacturing at a Maine shop and it leaves little time to work on the car. I turn 62 next month and I find it takes longer and longer to get my butt going on a weekend! Because we are looking ahead to retirement, next year we may say goodbye to this car, and most likely Corvettes for good.
I've had a great run with the 7 that I have owned, starting with a 71 BB coupe in 1975 or so.

OH come on man, move to Florida and get some sunshine in between the clouds...top down cruising the climate alone puts some get up and go in you....much less ZERO state income taxes, thank you Orlando/Mickey Mouse......
