Chips?
I was under the impression that the C5 could not be "chipped" as it were. You know, like those Hyperchips you could get in the 80's and such. I have seen a couple for sale ads that say the car has a chip so what's the deal? Maybe they are talking about one of those predator or diablo tune things, I don't know.

The Hypertech and Predator are handheld programming devices that can perform limited tune change functions and upload those changes to the PCM. They would still not fall into the chip category. Taking a step below those, there are still aftermarket plug-in "modules" that connect (or spliced/hardwired) to the PCM that some may call a chip. Products like the MAF Translator and those devices that spoof IAT would fit into this category. Even hardwired adjustable cooling fan controllers are not uncommon. Remember, the PCM makes decisions based entirely on external engine sensor data, so intercepting and altering that I/O data is still fully possible to effectively change things. With today's tuning tools, these external hardwired devices have become a low-tech bass-ackwards obsolete way of doing things, but they are still out there. |

I plugged in a Stage 2 JET Performance Module, which I guess some might think of as a chip. I wanted something quick until I figure out if I'm getting a newer PCM, sending mine out for a tune, or just selling the car in May.
