Unhappy *PSA* Remember, let's be careful out there. [Update]
I worked a two car head on collision this afternoon. 2 people in each car, all four are no longer of this world. Sometimes this job brings you face to face with our own mortality and how quickly our lives can either be irreparably changed or end. The lives of loved ones taken way too early, parents awaiting the return of children from college are informed by state troopers that their child is dead. Children being informed that their parents won't be making Christmas this year.

There are many of you that I have never met, but I still ask that each and everyone of you hug your children, siblings and parents each and every time you can, because it could be the last time you have that chance.

We don't get many illegals up here. I think the Winter driving must scare them away. Can't blame them, half the time I can't even figure out if I am still on the road or not

There was a bad rollover not too terribly far from me this weekend. Six of the seven occupants were not wearing seat belts, including a 4-year-old boy who was not wearing a seatbelt or in a car seat.

I used to see them every day......

I'm paranoid by nature, so try to play through different scenarios while driving sometimes....just to be prepared - you just never know what can happen, or how you will be able to react. One of my biggest fears is a bad car wreck.

I haven't been posting all week because my brother was here from Colorado helping me get the new house in order. Took him to the airport this morning. Gave him a big hug and told him I loved him. We always end our phone calls with "Love you man". Hug the kids all the time too. I know my brothers-in-law were never told by my jack wagon FIL that he loved them. It's just my families way, and I pass it on. It can all change in an instant.

The hardest part of my job is seeing the families after they find out their loved one has passed. Kids think they are invincible and bad things will never happen to them.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, the VW driven south by Smalley drifted into the northbound lane of traffic Sunday afternoon in Erath County, which is southwest of Fort Worth.
