Default 1962 GMC Crew Cab Long Bed

The forest service used them for the firefighter hand crews and the railroads had some of them.

Why does almost every restored classic truck need to be lowered?

Agree

I “window shop” various sites regularly. One day I will find the right truck and probably pull the trigger.

But nothing looks worse than a 1950’s -60’s classic truck all pimped up. I especially hate the overdone interiors.

I’d like a restored classic truck in as close to stock condition as possible. And then I will use it like a truck. It will get scratched up and my dogs will drool, lick, and scratch up the interior.

Day one I’m loading bricks in the bed, and I’m throwing them in from 20 feet away.

Lars, where I am, there are plenty of '50's and '60's trucks being used as work trucks still because of no rust issues. A friend of mine still has the '50 Suburban his grandfather bought new. An old co-worker of mine has his dad's '64 C-10. Around here, the Mexicans like to lower them, but the crackers keep them stock and use them as intended. The really cool thing about vintage trucks is the bed height...you can actually load heavy items without lifting them over your head to get them into the bed. About 20 years ago there was a fad where thugs would buy a dually long bed, and slam it, and then get it high-centered pulling into a driveway. Absolutely moronic. Thankfully, fading away these days. I guess our $5-6 gas may have something to do with it.

Two years ago I passed on a co-worker's 1965 C-10 long bed fleetside. It was original faded turquoise, had the big back window, factory ac, tinted Soft Ray glass all around, a 327 engine, and 3 speed manual with overdrive, all factory.
Looked great, ran great, needed paint to be perfect, but it was $3500. If it was a short bed, would have been twice that. Lot's of old trucks out here!

$3,500 sounds like a steal, especially with the big back window. When I was looking for a used pickup about 10 years ago, the 60's C-10 models y were all over the local CL pages for similar money, but now, nothing.
