Default Just Check & Add

Anyone have a mower that doesn't require an oil change, one where you just add when needed? First I've seen of these, maybe they've been around for a while. Admittedly mowers are probably the most abused engines around and I get low maintenance aspect but this goes against my upbringing!

I finally changed the oil in my Honda mower after 21 seasons of using it.

I figured if I wanted it to last much longer, I should do more than add gas to the tank, but it is a great mower

I have a Husqvarna riding mower with a B&S engine and I change the oil in it once a year. I also have a 21" Toro two cycle push mower that I bought in 1985 that's still going strong!

Never changed mine nor brought it to be changed, even those strongly suggested be changed by the manufacturer. Incentives just aren’t there and never had one break down as a result of my piss poor maintenance attitude.

Stabil at the end of the season is the totality of my small engine effort. What can I say? “I’m a Baller, a Shot Caller.”

My Honda is about the exact same age and has had 21 oil changes in that time , but I must admit I know many that never change the oil in theirs

An insider tip from someone who used to sell parts in the lawncare industry... I heard at a symposium that the average homeowner took about 3 years to put 60 hours on their mowers... and componentry on some machines was designed with a life expectancy just slightly beyond that; and beyond the warranty period as well.
If you keep the oil topped off on that Briggs it will probably outlive the warranty, but if you actually maintain it it will probably live as long as you want it to.

Maybe it burns so much, you have to add oil every other time you use it.

Used to have a car like that back in the 1970's. Couple quarts a night though and that was that was straight 50 weight.
