Default Got all the ingredients... but have no recipe :(

What's the VBOT recommended recipe?

I have a hankerin' for a Martini so I went out and bought everything I'd need... even the stainless shaker and the Martini glasses.

Only problem:
I've never made a Martini before.

Rather than Google it I want your recipes.

Make it snappy.

I'm thirsty.

Basic recipe is 2 ounces gin or vodka to a dash of vermouth.
Since you have the olives add a 1/4 to 1/2 ounce of the olive brine to make it dirty.

Thanks! I'm trying the basic recipe first.

Next one, I'll try the dirty version. Do you usually use gin or vodka?

Should it be shaken or stirred? Like James Bond used to do it?

I like shaken, but also...when using gin, I have always heard to not use metal to shake or stir, and always serve in glass - as to not "bruise" the gin.

Really....

So I can mix it in the stainless container, but I can't stir it with anything metal? I'll see what I have.

I might have an unused wooden chop stick.

Like I could even tell the difference after my first Martini.

Ok. Here we go for round 2.

Non-bruised gin, stirred, dirty.

Forgot to ask... should I add the olive with the pimento, or without?

I'm thirsty.
Add crushed ice to shaker and then add 3 oz of either top-shelf vodka (Gey Goose is a good choice Ketel One is slightly less smooth to me but excellent) or Gin (Bombay Sapphire or Tanqueray would be my preference). Shake for 30 sec. Pour into Martini glass, add two olives or cocktail onions on small skewer.

I have a very good friend who likes his cocktail onions marinated in vermouth...I give him 3 in his.

The classic recipe is anywhere from 6-12 parts vodka/gin to 1 part vermouth...I don't care for vermouth so I go straight.

I recommend you drink 3 martinis and stay away from stairs.

I think you'll find bleu cheese-stuffed olives quite tasty with a dirty martini. I happen to like garlic-stuffed olives but pimiento-stuffed are not as intrusive to the flavor of the drink.

Gin FTW! I can't stand the taste of vodka.
The vermouth will make it drier if that makes sense.
I suggest to taste a little gin and then a little vermouth seperate so you know what you should add or minus during your testing.

I used to use a beaker and glass stirring rod...took too long to chill and let the ice melt.

Since I have a total of 15" of stainless steel plate and 19 stainless screws in my legs that haven't harmed me yet, I'm comfortable with any of my stainless shakers. YMMV.

I'll try this one for round 3. I don't have any cocktail onions, so I'll stick with olives tonight. I've been shaking / gently sloshing things around for about 10 seconds. Next time I'll go up to 30.
