Default Chain restaurants

Can't stand 'em. I'd much rather go to a local place. Better food, better presentation, better service.

Do you like 'em? Think any are good? I've never been to a PF Chang's but I've heard they're decent. Other than that, I won't step foot in a chain.

It depends. When we do go out, it's ususally to a local place or to Detroit/Ann Arbor areas for more expensive/fine dining - once in a while we'll go to a chain (usually when we're traveling). Part of it's because my cooking at home is better than going to a chain (and cheaper, too).

Usually for lunch there isn't much of a choice.

I'd MUCH rather do locally owned too. But, the 'rents like their Appleby's and Chili's, etc. so we do that when I go visit.

Otherwise, blech. No fast food for me at all either. Stomach goes apeshit when I eat at a fast food place.

We've tried out 2 "new" chains here recently that are permanently crossed off our list....
5 Guys and Steak and Shake. Blech!!!
We've got a club meeting tonight at a local Mexican restaurant that is only so-so.
Tomorrow night we're meeting friends at Pappadeaux's....looking forward to that!!

Steak and shake......I could do without. Five Guys, at least here, is the best thing going for a burger.
P.F. CHangs is so so.

We like Texas Roadhouse, Coltons, Outback, Red Lobster, Copeland's and Benihana.

for burgers here in Houston, try Beck's Prime.

for steak can't beat Taste of Texas!!
Outback is a "don't bother" in our book (but then I live with a "fair dinkum Aussie.....)

Not many chain restaurants near where I live. I'm not close to much fast food, either, which is OK with me. I will admit to perhaps a monthly Burger King or Taco Bell fix, but I mostly cook for myself. We are fortunate to have a great family owned pizza joint nearby.

Main thing we'll hit up is Pei Wei (cheaper version of PF Changs) and Chili's. Go to each every 3 months. Besides that, it's mostly home cooking or local stuff.

depends on where I am when going out for dinner.

I enjoy TGI Fridays and my GF has a friend who bartends there. Been there twice in 3 months... can't remember the last time I ate at a Fast food joint like McDonnalds.

With money being tight right now, it's a real treat to go out, but, more often than not I'm totally disappointed in what they serve. I can make a much superior quality for less money, and enjoy it more at home or at friend's homes.

I can also control the ingredients (salt and sugar for example), and crap chemicals used in a lot of restaurant food.....I should know, I ran one, and worked in lots, for over 25 years....!!!...

I like Pei Wei a lot. Their Crab Rangoons and Pad Thai is among my favorites.

On The Border isn't bad for fajitas. For Italian, there's a local place here called Margie's which is just outstanding. Although I do like the pastafagiole soup and salad at Olive Garden.

I think I should also make a distinction in chain restaraunts - there are some local (or even state wide) chains that we frequent more often, Grand Traverse Pie Co, for example.

That place sounds familiar....lived in TC until 1990.

Has anyone tried out Subway's new breakfast menu?

Chick-fil-a is a favorite......love their chicken sandwich and waffle fries.

Especially Italian restaurants.

You need to find one where Grandma is cooking in the kitchen

Agreed. The only "chain" I go to is Ruth's Chris's Steak House, which I don't think is a national chain, but it may be. Wait...I lie. I do eat at a Red Lobster once a year on an annual trip, only because it's at a convenient stopping point. Food there isn't bad if you order carefully.

Round here there is not much as far as local resturants. However I just found a new chain called BJ'S resturant, They have a large variety of food on the menu Pizza's, steaks, chicken, pork, I have been there a few times an have been very happy .
