Default Food delivery costs

There was an article about restaurants going under or barely surviving, they blamed more than a little the costs food delivery services charge them. I was intrigued so I read on... The services such as door dash and others charge on low end 20% and high end 50% of what was ordered(30% seems to be the norm). Plus you the customer pay delivery and they have a minimum that if not met you get charged extra to make up the difference. Anyone who's worked food industry knows the profit margin isn't that great. So these services are taking a large chunk of their profits if not all.
Something to think about, maybe go pick up your food instead to help the restaurants out.
I had no idea they charged so much, I knew it wasn't free on restaurants end but damn.

The democrat republic of Albany county NY just passed a limit on what the companies like Grub Hub could charge for deliveries. They mandated a 15% limit.

Good. Some of these delivery companies are indeed killing the restaurants.

If they charge the customer alot guess that's on you but to rip off the restaurants especially right now is total bullshit.

If the restaurant has their own delivery service, then yes. Door Dash, Uber Eats, et al., are ****ing restaurants over.

I always go pick up food that I order. Gives me another reason to have to drive the Vette.

Don’t know about where you live but here if restaurants don’t want the service, they aren’t there.

Absolutely. Most times now I will pickup and tip like a madman. Normally I was a 20% guy unless service was complete shit. But early April I picked up at a Houlihan's and threw the guy a $20. The guy started crying next to my car and said it was his first tip all day, nobody was tipping the curbside folks. I felt bad for these folks who went to work for minimum wage and got feck all tips. I figured from then on I would over tip these Republicans until I went back to indoor dining and was served by a nice pair of tits.

I almost always just go get it myself, I'm not a lazy fuq. If the restaurant has a delivery service I will use that but no outside entity.

Since this COVID nonsense began, I’ve been ordering once a week and picking up at the restaurant...and bumped my tipping to 25% (before all of this I usually tipped 20% when dining in). Trying to do my part to help keep restaurants afloat and people employed as best I can.

Something to think about, maybe go pick up your food instead to help the restaurants out.

Except they charge those fees to YOU, the end user - not the restaurants.

The 30% is taken by the delivery company before restaurants get their cut, then customers pay delivery and any other charges(fees) if below minimum delivery service minimum.

Also some services take the tip out of what delivery driver makes. If they get 10 bucks for delivery and you give 5 dollar tip(all electronic) the delivery company only pays 10 bucks (5 for delivery and 5 tip) total. So drivers may not even get your tip. I'd have to look up which one was doing that.

Had no idea that's how it works. Pizza is about the only thing I have delivered. I think ordering online you can auto include a 10/20/? percent tip.

Never get delivery. Always do carryout myself.

I'd write a check for a 2020 FordGT, if I could get one, but I won't pay for delivery fee or tip.
