So You Didn't Blow Up a Plane: That's No Reason to Let You Leave the Airport
Quote:
You know, if my goal was to figure out how to make air travel as humiliating and degrading as possible, I couldn't do any better than the TSA. Kudos. Viva police state! How is this making airplanes safer? Oh, wait....I guess it isn't. |

The company I used to work for made those kinds of controlled entry/egress security vestibules. Just about anyone in that business designed the *capability* of scanning for all kinds of things -- biometrics, metal, and even explosive device sniffers. Sounds like the TSA bought plain-Jane vestibules without any fancy capabilities.
A big problem with security vestibules is throughput. The Italians have the most experience with this technology and deploy vestibules in many retail stores. Even the best designs over there only allow approximately 20-25 people through in 60 seconds. TSA had the brain their behind if they think its a good idea to install these vestibules in mass transit areas where hundreds to thousands of people congregate - imagine the crush and trampling injuries if something triggered a panic in a terminal. Idiots. |

The shooting thing -- or someone *thinking* there's a shooting -- is what scares me about the regulation. This is a very, very bad idea. |

Sometimes Im convinced that the true purspose of the TSA is just to reduce the number of people willing to fly and put up with their bull shitz.
Between the airlines and the TSA, commercial flying has become such a pain in the ass that I hate flying anymore |

Flying commercial is a straight up pain in the ass. The .gov gets nothing right, and that's the reason our country is in the shape it's in.

Feck flying. I just don't do it anymore.
Take a few days, drive, see the country, talk to its people. It's worth it. |
