Getting ready to sell my C5...
This is not intended to be a for sale ad, just wondering what I should ask for it. Been watching ebay, and "buy it now" prices are all over the place, $15k to mid 20s for 2001s.
Those who have seen my car know it's got a ton of mods, and the car will go with a lot of extras too, like the stock wheels/tires, EFI Live, radar detector, laminated window sticker & build sheet, all receipts. Though over 11 years, I've sunk a lot of money into it, I'm not intending to ask the world for it, because it does need some things fixed, and the bling mods are obviously very subjective, if not undesirable to some. It's a 2001 coupe w 1SC option pkg, M6, about 55k mi. I purchased the car in Oct 2002 with 1600mi on it. Pics can be seen here: https://www.thevettebarn.com/forums/m...-my+vette.html I'll try to list everything done to it... Chassis - Base suspension, lowered about 2", bushings cut on front bolts, longer rear bolts. Everyone that's ridden in it mentions how smooth it rides. - Z06 sway bars - 19/20" Iforged Evolution 3pc wheels, polished finish - Nearly new Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires (about 1k miles on them) - Stock polished thinspokes/EMT tires will also be included - Baer Eradispeed brake rotors, 2pc front, 1pc rear - Painted calipers - Chrome pad covers - Elite 1/4" aluminum tunnel plate Exterior - ACI front splitter - MCM carbon fiber hood - Cowl panel painted yellow - SS inserts front and rear - Z06 foglight screens - Brake duct screens - Amber European tail lights - Amber European sidemarkers - Shaved emblem on hatch - Silverstar high beam headlight bulbs (all 4) - Transparent roof panel (only, do not have painted top) - 28% tinted windows - Chrome body trim screws Engine mods - LG G5X4 cam (.609/.614" 240/244 111LSA) - TEA stg2 5.3 heads (862 castings), milled to 59cc chamber (11.7:1 CR) - Pistons notched for p/v clearance - ARP head studs - Cometic .040" head gaskets - Powerbond 25% underdrive harmonic balancer - Lucas 38# injectors - Taylor Thundervolt plug wires, NGK TR6IX iridium spark plugs - Synister polished aluminum PS pulley - AIR system deleted - FLP LT headers, currently with no cats...but will include cats that came with kit. Stock rear 02 sensors removed & tuned out. - Original style GHL catback system with 4" tips Engine bling -Autobuff's painted/airbrushed engine covers (9 pcs) - Chrome dual cone air filter - Chrome intake manifold cover - Chrome fuel rail - Chrome Alternator - Chrome alt bracket - Chrome tensioner - Chrome front trim panel - Chrome hood hinges & struts - Chrome hood latches - Chrome fan shroud and motor cover - Chrome cowl insert - Chrome wiper arms and blades - Design Specialties etched chrome filler caps - Chrome dipstick tube (not installed but included) Interior - Painted console - Painted instrument cluster - Aluminum gauge bezels - Black/yellow leather Vette Essentials steering wheel - Hurst shifter - Chrome shift and ebrake handles - Suede console cover and shift boots w/ yellow stitching - Column lock bypass - Autometer Cobalt wideband AFR gauge in A pillar - Autometer Cobalt Fuel pressure gauge in A pillar - Chrome yellow LED Raptor shift light in A pillar - Chrome sill plates - Escort 8500 X50 blue LED radar detector with mirror mount and invisicord - Window Valet - EFI Live V1 scan/tune pkg, licensed to this PCM, plus one unused license. - PLX SM-AFR wideband controller - Stereo system is all stock What needs work - Needs steering wheel position sensor to eliminate AH codes - Pass door sometimes doesn't unlock, probably needs RDCM replaced - Left outside mirror is stuck in "dim" mode - Transparent roof has minor crazing, left front corner of it is cracked (does not leak) - Stock clutch will not tolerate high RPM shifts. Pedal will stick to floor. Clutch works perfectly in normal street driving, it just can't handle the high RPM power. - Painted engine covers have heat-faded some, color mismatch is noticeable. - MCM hood was purchased used & already painted, paint match is slightly off. Looks ok in sunlight, looks off in dimmer conditions. All in all, car is very reliable, runs and drives very well. Zero knock using 93 octane pump gas. I would have no fear driving it cross country tomorrow. Car is very loud, and sits very low and does take some care in driving. And it has been a driver, not representing it as a perfect show car. Never been in an accident. It will be sold "for off road use only" as it is not emissions-compliant. (Though it will pass OBDII emissions test). Car has never been raced nor dyno'd because of the clutch limitation. I was thinking of asking $20k... |

That was my question too!
If I wasn't in the market to get a small truck, I would be interested! |

Nope. No plans to replace it with anything right now.
I've been thinking of selling it for quite some time, for the simple reason I just don't ever drive it. I took it to BR last year, and 2 trips to visit family a few hours away later last year, and that's about all the use it's seen in the past 3 years. I haven't had the money to give it the things it needs (like the clutch), and if I did have the money, I have more important things to spend it on...So it just sits, and I've lost interest in it to be honest. I'm probably gonna put it up on the local Craigslist first, as I see asking prices are quite high in comparison (some are downright ridiculous), and a local sale would be most convenient. |

I know how you feel Tom! I think somewhere between $22K to $24K would be fair for your car. GLWS

Tom,
Sorry to see you are considering selling. I just sold the '99 (with 17k). Spent several frustrating efforts in attempting to sell it on the other forum - nothing but low ball offers. Finally I went to e-bay; listed for $33k - sold for $44k. Quote:

Saw yours for sale from some pics from the TMS event, sounds like you made out very well on the deal. I agree, CF is NOT the place to sell a car. I put mine up on craigslist mid-May...Received 2 lowball offers almost immediately after I placed the ad (which I turned down), then got a reasonable offer the following morning. He came out that same afternoon, looked at it, handed me the $ and drove it away an hour later...Couldn't have asked for an easier transaction. |

Sounds like your efforts worked out. As you noted - I was not driving the '99 - in fact when in May I went to have it inspected I learned than in the previous 3 years I put less than 400 miles on the Vette (I had not had it inspected since 2010). We did keep the S/O's '04 - we discussed selling since she has less than 9k on the Vette and like the '99 it is seldom driven (although both are brought out once a month in the Spring, Summer and Fall for a drive around the block). Anyway, great talking to you - stay safe and I hope we meet up in the future. Dennis |
