I've made this argument for years. Electric cars are not the long term solution. Hydrogen fuel cells are what will win at the end of the day.

Plus, if everyone suddenly got electric vehicles, recharging them would overload the grid to the point of meltdown. Our current electrical grid can't handle that.

I've said for years it's a fraud. Not surprised in the least. Those batteries are the equivalent of automotive plutonium.

I was filling the Suburban at the gas station when a prius driver started giving me shit about "being kind to the planet".

I asked him if his fancy batteries grew on trees. He looked at me confused.

I pointed out the "fancy metals" to make his car do more harm in making them that the recycled materials in my Suburban.

Maybe, but as long as electric cars are a) the fastest vehicles on the road, and b) can be refueled in my garage without having to ever go to a gas station, then that's what I'm going to choose.

Friend of mine just got a Tesla model 3. He wanted to race.

I said "lets do a real race, NewYork...to LA. I'll drive a Chevy Cruze, and give you a 2 days head start". He hesitated, then kinda chuckled.

His 2 motor Tesla model 3 goes 12 flat in the 1/4 mile; very respectable.
But, a base C7 goes mid-high 11's in the1/4 mile, Z06 in low 11's... ZR1 can get in the high 10's

I am not so sure about this Craig ... I don't know what the future is, but I don't think it will be Fuel Cell. I say this given my former company 3M made big investments in Fuel Cell tech. The problem is how to supply the Hydrogen to the Fuel cell stack in a way the public would accept and even if they accept storing Hydrogen on board, we have to have a whole new infrastructure to supply Hydrogen fueling. There is the alternative of using on board reformers to take Gasoline and turn it into Hydrogen in the car but the economic return just isn't there.

I see Fuel cell for awhile being a great solution for stationary power systems but I don't think we will see it commonly in cars in the next 10 years. We WILL see more electrics though as battery tech continues to improve but as has been pointed out lots of hidden issues with electric vehicles.

Infrastructure has always been the chicken/egg scenario for automobiles. I think Honda has done an exemplary job of trying to address this with home charging stations. Tesla has done a good job of building out the electric infrastructure too, but a huge risk to electric is what do do with all of the used batteries. Not to mention the cost to the owner when they finally have to replace the batteries. Massively expensive, and quite likely could have a huge negative impact on the future used car market.

Plus the extra battery needed to mimic the large sound of open headers.......and much less the speakers to broadcast it.....
