Reporter mocked after urging citizens to call 911 on ice cream man for alleged coronavirus violation

https://www.foxnews.com/media/ice-cr...n-911-reporter

A journalist from CBS’ Chicago affiliate was mocked on Twitter for a report that urged citizens to call 9-1-1 on the ice cream man for breaking coronavirus guidelines.

CBS Chicago investigative correspondent Brad Edwards’ report opened with the joyful sounds of a neighborhood ice cream man but quickly took a turn.

“That iconic music screams summer, and we all scream for ice cream, but during the pandemic… getting close to the ice cream man could mean getting something else. Fact of life, yet here is Mr. Freeze – not his name – in his truck of treats, unmasked, ungloved, taking cash for cones,” Edwards said.

Quote:
No gloves? No Mask? No problem. This ice cream man is not only ignoring COVID-19 protocol, but he's breaking the law.
The report then aired footage of another apparent CBS Chicago assignment desk editor staffer confronting the ice cream man; “You think it’s a good idea to be doing this with the stay-at-home order?”

The ice cream man responded, “Why are you trying to take ice cream out of the hands of children?”

The ice cream man and apparent CBS staffer bickered back and forth about coronavirus guidelines before he eventually drove off – all of which was captured on video and included in the report.

Edwards then tweeted out the segment, which was immediately criticized by users who felt the reporter was snitching on a man trying to earn a living.

Edwards did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the backlash.

One critic prompted a response from Edwards by asking, “What law is he breaking Brad? Please cite the specific one.”

The reporter fired back, “Ice cream trucks aren’t allowed in Hoffman Estates.”

Critics took to Twitter to slam the report:

Brave reporting there sir. I'll alert the Emmy folks.

Step back and think about who you're trying to take down. Not a corrupt politician, not a person committing a felony but an ice cream truck driver.

He's trying to make an honest living. Call 911? What the hell is wrong with you?

How many journalists show up at the presser without mask or gloves? Do you try to destroy their lives, too?

so rules set by Home Owners Associations are worthy of 911 calls to be enforced?

Can we call you Mr. Pulitzer now? Or should we wait?

Is this [what] you're taught in "journalism" school tv-brad?? Cornering the ice cream guy to shame him? Who made you patrol guard? Journalism is dead. CBSChicago should be embarrassed.

Ah, the old cash-for-cones scheme. Surely this will bring down the ice cream man, with his nefarious plot to earn a living and feed his family. Jail's too good for someone like that. He must be hung from the neck until dead, dead, dead.

I wish that was me.

To get our truck up and running would be a huge PITA right now. Because we are a soft-serve truck, we would need to get a bunch of licenses and inspections. We'd also need to go through SafeServ again. And naturally, everything is shut down right now, so we can't get any of that shit.

Maybe I should try to find a novelty truck...

Excuses!!! Get your ass in gear and start selling soft serve to the unwashed masses of stay at home schooled children. You yourself said you didn't have a contract right now. Get your truck up and running and screw the licensing requirements.

Getting product shouldn't be a problem. It's all the bullshit licensing that would be the problem, as most the PA gubmint is shut down. Until June 4th now.

I don't think it's your size; I doubt you could even get one of your feet in it.

One of the things you may notice when you cut the cord and stop watching American mainstream media is that YouTube has news reports from around the world. When you watch them you realize that in some countries there are a few people who still understand what Journalism is supposed to be.
