Yes! That's the very cool part. It clearly indicates acknowledgement and intent. All of her direct bosses want the solution yesterday. This meeting can green light it and get it funding.

So, how does GWiz assign a dollar value to her program?

The goal on how to sell it has changed a bit. If she get get SLB to sponsor the Senior Capstone department for $10k, that would be all they would have to pay, and in return, they would have GWiz's full attention this coming Spring semester, along with 2-4 more interested developers. The intent then would be for her to pickup and continue development next Summer as a returning intern, and finally, after her last semester next fall, she will continue with full time employment to propagate the platform throughout the entire organization. Again, the numbers involved at that point will need to be handsome for sure, as as the software sits right now, when they implement it, it will save them an immediate $500k+ per year.

So if I correctly understand what you said, SLB's investment would be $10K and GWiz's internship costs against an immediate $500K cost savings/avoidance. Why are they waiting until next Monday? This has to rank as one of the higher "no brainer" solution sets.

Large companies don't move very fast. I think the decision will be made rapidly when she presents next week, AND, just TODAY she got her offer to return to them next summer. If that doesn't bode well for a green light, I don't know what does. The timing is actually very good. Make the decision soon, and they'll roll right onto it starting January.

They will need to purchase the platform and get it deployed internally, which she can certainly assist with. If she goes down this path, my vision for her would be that they make this a division part of the IT department, and as it swoops around the organization implementing efficiencies and cost savings, that a percentage of those savings get invested back into her division...for both profit sharing, and growth. My gut tells me she could save them 10's of millions in as little as 5 years. This was her vision, her blood sweat and tears, it would be neat to see them let her contribute in the success.

The meeting today with not just #3 in line to CEO, but 2 other complete surprise high-level executive guests, was a home run. Meeting was originally just a power point deck, but the top level wanted a demo, which G gladly gave, and they loved it! They keep coming back to HOW MUCH CONTENT she built in just a summer, all the while meeting all of her engineering objectives for the internship too. Meeting was slated for 1 hour, it went over by 30 minutes.

Pitching the capstone approach has made this a no-brainer for them, and they are now evaluating this as a way to eliminate a tool that they use for all teams GLOBALLY. They make the commitment for capstone, they get hands-on attention from GT and 5 students until May 2020, GWiz rolls back on for internship in Summer of 2020, so they basically have 13 months to prototype the vision, and then build out the infrastructure and deployment strategy for said project.

#3 used to work in the same division that GWiz did her magic in, so she KNEW what G was talking about, and no way in hell G could bullshit her way through this. #3 has even added G on LinkedIn.

Only 2-3 "possible gotchas" were thrown out at her by one of the other 2 in attendance, and GWiz nailed those, and that guy was excited. More than one said "When can we start".

The fact that the top dog in this meeting was excited by the capstone approach means to me that this is all but a done deal. Now they just have to have the conversation with the software vendor, as well as the capstone department at GT, and get their internal structure aligned to handle a project like this.

Congrats G.

Outstanding!

Now, she needs to line her minions up so that they can move out rapidly once the program is greenlighted and the money taps are turned on.

SLB wins, GT wins, and most importantly GWiz wins ... it doesn't get better than that.

Just dropped a bug in G's ear that they need to also consider the capstone kids for next summer internship (and/or) employment. G's best friend, and former roommate, will be on the team, and will be graduating in May. She's in the process of trying to secure her full time deal. Stars couldn't align much better than they are right now.

I just had to quote this for posterity. I had the vision of what could become of this, because I've been so immersed in this platform for the past 6 years. What G did from June until now still blows me away.

Another point to consider. That $500k savings was ONLY at that one small plant in Houston. Top brass pointed this out.

Do you know how many sites they have in Houston, let alone all over the world? This has the legs to be a game changer for this company, and they know it.

So, with the Coronavirus slowing things down how is GWiz's project for SLB progressing?

I presume that she received the "go ahead" to implement the program back in January and that GWiz and her staff of minions should have completed the initial deployment and the minor tweaks necessary.

What is the status of her graduation? Is she still on track to graduate this fall (when we are all out of our quarantine programs) or has her schedule slipped a semester?

SLB canceled all internships due to the Wu Flu AND oil prices, so GWiz lost the opportunity. It may resurrect someday, BUT...in these desperate times, she WAS able to get an internship with the company that I work for doing Salesforce. Money is not quite as good, but what the hell, closing out your college career with 4 back-to-back internships is massive. She's already got 2 Salesforce certifications and is working on her 3rd. She got this position because of who SHE is, not because of who I am. This company was willing to offer her an internship in her FRESHMAN year, when she went to Cummins.

She has one semester left (this fall). She just finished the past semester with a 4.0 and has a 3.68 GPA overall. Sucks that she has to enter the workforce in this shit, but she'll certainly command a full-time position with my company when she graduates if she wants it.

Being a cynical SOB (Sweet Old Ben) I can foresee SLB instituting GWiz' program on their own and saving having to pay her for her work . . . except that the software gurus they will use will not be up to the level of GWiz and her team so that it will take longer and much more constant revisions and tweaks.

Make sure that she lets us know when it comes time to congratulate her for her work at GT and her plans for the future!

GWiz still owns the intellectual property and they don't have her source code. She got an A on the senior project, but for them to replicate what she did (if they even could) would cost 10x what it would have cost them to have her do it. It's not dead in the water, but it might have been a wake up call that the oil/gas industry may not be a "full career" for her. Regardless, she loves building software, and the code/platform she did SLB on is nearly identical to Salesforce. She really enjoys consulting over being an engineer...so this was likely a blessing in disguise.

if she only learned "be flexible", that was a great lesson.

companies no longer have loyalty to people, and people have returned the favor.
