There's a lot of mis-info out there about this.

A. "these players have the right to...."

No, not while on the clock and under their employers rules; via a contract signed by every player in the league.

For those that live in a open-carry state, try open-carry into work one day; or instead wear a "Abortion on Demand" tee-shirt. Try to convince then that although this may have not been a wise decision, "but I still have the right to... "

B The NFL guidelines about player conduct, they're too vague at the moment on this aspect. They need to make them more specific

they are already specific:

Quote:
The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem.

During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country.
The fault clearly lies with the NFL and it's current commissioner; who did nothing with Colin Kaepernick last year; but got lucky... as the free market system took care of Kaepernick for him (no longer playing for the NFL). But what does that say to others when these things are not enforced..... they can get away with it, and it just gets worse & worse & worse until the President of the United States feels he has to speak about it.

I'm done with the bigoted, homophobic nfl until they start hiring transgender cheerleaders.

To be clear, paying respects during the National Anthem is not important?

Yeah, because equating police injustice and peaceful protesting makes sense...
Got it this time. Thanks.

I'm absolutely in favor of anyone protesting what they feel is wrong. But this is just so the wrong place. Other times/places the protest would gain folks. This is creating plenty against.

All I know is that are not standing respectfully for the natl anthem. I don’t know why.

That’s a fail. You are pissing people off for no apparent reason.

Rather like screaming in church for no reason. It’s annoying with no redeeming rationale.

except the PotUS part.

He didn't HAVE to speak out against it.

In fact, one could argue it goes against conservative ideals that the PotUS (aka the government) shouldn't get involved with private business.

And even if he DID have to speak about it, he couldn't have done much of a worse job.

Sure the Trump fanboys across the nation will say he did no wrong. But they and "their guy" are wrong.

There are times to be blunt but more often than nought the use of intelligent language to communicate an idea the majority of the people could get behind is the best way to do it.

Sadly Trump doesn't have much of that ability.

Trump is a populist. Some of his policies overlap with conservatism, but he isn't a conservative. Look at his daughter, Ivanka. Typical limousine liberal. He's brought in some generals into his fold I wouldn't label as conservative.

As to this current dust up, Trump merely said what millions of ordinary people are saying around the dinner table, at the water cooler, on base, and everywhere else Americans gather. The left has anyone NOT on the fringe left frightened of their own shadows, lest they be called out as a bigot, sexist, homophobe, racist, and whatever other vile and baseless names that can be tossed out to silence the opposition. And frankly, before Trump, conservatives, who should have been leading the pushback to all this SJW business, had pretty much ceded the field to the SJW's. Until Trump. They threw everything including the kitchen sink at Trump, viciously, and without mercy, and he's still standing. People see that they can speak out against the SJW's agenda. This is exactly why he has such a loyal base.

Trump is like a real life John Connor.

His name is Trump. Donald Trump.

I don't follow you there. If you can legally do something, there are no consequences.

When someone says: "the players have the right", I am sensing them thinking that "there's nothing that can be done about it... because it's a constitutional right".

It's not a "right" if existing laws or regulations don't allow it to be done.

Damn, when you're wrong, you're just wrong wrong. You go long wrong. Double wrong long time. Like a cheetah chasing a bullet wrong. Like Captain Picard wondering if the Borg is just testing out this area of space. Like, I dunno, really? Trump has NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS! He reacted to it, like many others.

This is where I find so much fun on this subject. The misattribution of blame. WE ARE BLAMELESS!

Nah, I'm the same! The world, she's changing around me. We watched the Blues Brothers tonight. Four of us. We were amazed at how out of place the general vibe of that movie would be in this era. No politics beyond hating Illinois Nazis. Cops were mean but not evil. Blacks/whites/whatever get along. It was so surreal compared to the stuff we are fed. Become free! (that's what I felt...)

Yes, my stance is just that. They hate Trump, and went at him like a rabid animal. No surprise there.

Quote:
Maybe you're not getting what some of us are saying.
Let me break it down for you...

Are the players within their right to kneel? Yes
Is it a wise move? No
Did it tick off fans? Yes
Was it wide spread before 9/21? No
Did the PotUS NEED to say anything? No
Did he choose to? Yes
Were those comments (spoken and tweeted) inflammatory? Yes
Was the kneeling and protesting more after the comments? Yes

Now when trying to assert blame there's PLENTY to go around.

You're more than welcome to stick out your chest and point a finger at the players saying they were (morally) wrong in taking a knee during the anthem.

I would tend to agree.

However, to say the remarks made by Trump had ZERO affect on the situation is 100% provably wrong and stinks to high heaven of willful, fanboy ignorance.

It's the same mentality of people who thought Obama was never wrong when he clearly was and was called out for it.

Let the spin cycle of deflecting these facts begin.
Damn that's a lot of disjointed BS. I don't want to break it down, because to me it's meaningless. We're pissed because the NFL shit the bed. That's it.

On that, we agree.
TxAg, I'm not trying to be right. I'm just saying that this is a thing right now. People are majorly pissed. You know how people IRL rarely speak of political things? They are talking about the NFL thing, and they aren't blaming anyone other than the NFL for shitting the bed. The NFL, OTOH, is trying to muddy the waters. With the help of the media, their very muchly in the pocket protectors.

I'll clarify. The NFL depends on the media to cover for them. The media gets access to the NFL. The NFL and the media had a Pavlovian response to Trump's comments, and the NFL expected the media to take care of it. Meanwhile, the nuclear weapon of nearly every player on every team disrespecting the flag/anthem/whatever went off.
