I suspected they didn't send my tax refund last year but wasn't sure due to the multitude of covid checks they were tossing around. One check arrived in an envelope with no explanation. What was that for? My missing refund? No idea.

AND THEN...

Got a statement from them a few weeks ago saying I earned interest from them (no reason detailed). Since I never saw a check from them for that amount I can only assume it has been tacked onto whatever it was that earned that interest. The refund check perhaps? Hell if I know.

Happened to me too. For technical reasons too boring to explain, I more or less purposely overpaid my taxes when making estimated tax payments in 2021. I filed my tax return in March of 2022, which included several thousand dollars of refund. I didn't receive my refund until November of 2022, so the government owed me interest on the refund for the 4-5 months they were late. It came to around $200. A few weeks ago I got the notice that the government wants the tax on that $200.

It's a prick with no end.

I believe/ trust the .gov about as far as I can sling a ****ing piano.
Rat bastards cost me almost a million bucks over something I had no control over whatsoever.
Then changed the rules/legislation. I sure as hell didn't get my $$$ back.
