I had two electric water heaters at one of my rental properties, and had no idea about the anode until one of the heating elements burned out, and I asked a question about it at the other place. Changed the burned out element, and both anodes. Sold the property a couple of years later, so I don't know how that effected the long-term performance.

Just like the anode rod if you don't know about it you don't need it. I sure hope someone told him about oil changes.

As I posted, I’d have to completely remove both water heaters to access these rods…. I did confuse them and thought you were referring to the elements. Next year I’ll rip them out and do the rods!
