Default How bout a little Corvette talk? '69 ZL-1 Convertible

Lotta hubbub over this one! Real or Faked, that is the question.....I'm going with the later, based on an opinion of others expertise. I have seen this car in person, as my LT-1 was staged close it at an NCRS meet in Florida years ago

It's being said it will reach 3 million!

What proof did you have showing that it was a real LT-1?

POS compared to a modern car. Overall good shape. A great 20 footer.
But was a candidate for a restoration.
A very cool car though.

I've seen Roger Judski's many times, so I guess I've seen half of all the ZL-1's ever made.

I believe the numbers were correct. This was about 25 years ago. I admit I probably should have kept the car and spent the 10’s of thousands of dollars to make it very nice.

Restoration?? reduce performance, style, return to boring body details??, return to a stick shift with no overdrive??, return to stock rims/tires, brakes??

My car easily rivals new ones, for one thing, there is no overuse of electronics and needless automated failure prone 'features'.....

I'm bustin on you...The '71 had nothing on them to prove their legitimacy....Only the '72 had the Vin proving the engine option.

The one WB shown above has factory A/C, with all doc's! It's a great runner and doesn't like to driven like to be driven mildly.

Pic's or it didn't happen!

I believe I have a picture somewhere. At that point we didn’t have phones with cameras. Hell I didn’t even have a computer in the 90’s.

It was originally Donnybrook Green. Saddle interior. Was painted resale red. Everything was there and in decent shape. Good frame /cage. Good body, you could see the bonding strips so I think it may have been a not accident car.

I seriously considered a restoration. But at the time I wasn’t in the mood to spend 25-30K on it. I bought it for 20K and sold it for 20K.

Meh.

I have an old article on the ZL1. There were only two made, documented. Now, we all know anyone can get a COPO done up, especially back then.. many strange vehicles then were bought by wealthy or connected people.

There are a few men still alive and well, that worked at the factory and know what went out the doors. Lots of interesting posts on the other sites. I've met several of these men and trust their memories.

What I don't are the documents that are apparently forged or made up......

Having a low mileage or super rare example, leads to a lifetime in defense.....

Documentation?

There are a handful of people that I would trust to say it's original or not.

A partial quote from one I trust with my life, " there are no less than three different tank sheets and two different dealer invoices"....

Reggie Jackson, sold a ZL1 Camaro at B-J, years ago. The ONLY original pieces were the vin and trim tags. The entire car was built from resto parts.

I've always found it strange or funny how a car can fetch more money just by the engine it left the factory with - BB, options, etc...the very same chassis, interior, body, etc...just a different engine.

Ford made a fortune placing different stickers on Mustangs and calling them something different or marketing them as 'special'.
