Used to, one only got a virus by visiting porn sites or other questionable sites. Now you get a virus from even supposedly safe sites. I just read on Facebook that Clint Eastwood had died; I clicked on the site, and it was the same old "BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Your computer has been infected with a virus that is sending your credit card information, bank account information, blah, blah, blah...."

Of course they want you to call their number to get the virus removed, for a fee, of course. You can't leave the page, so you have to re-boot to get rid of it.
This happens to me 5-6 times a day! Facebook doesn't respond to my complaint, nor does Comcast, even though one "virus" says it's from them.

Petty fcuking crooks....

1. Use only Chrome or Fire Fox. Install these add-ons: Ublock Origin; Privacy Badger, Disconnect, HPPTS everywhere.
2. Use a paid AV like Kaspersky.
3. Pay for Malwarebytes so it runs in the background
4. I also run Hitmanpro Alert that protects your browser and it also runs in the background. Another paid app.

spence - you have malware on your machine, it's not facebook.

download malwarebytes and clean that whore of a pc you're using.

and download ccleaner and do the same.

start by clearing the cache on your browser, and make sure something hasn't hijacked your browswer or inserted a proxy in your network connections.

Just close the window/tab. If you're using any halfway modern browser (think Chrome or Firefox) it'll prompt you to block popups after the site pops up one or two (which is usually how they keep you from closing the page).

Worst case, ALT+F4 with the Window focused. Or CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and kill your browser process (right click, end process).
