I'd never read these comics, and to be honest when I heard the initial plot/character (aka Rocket) it sound cheesy. I'm realllllly looking forward to this movie!

Hell, I'm into Marvel comics and before I heard the movie went into development I think I had come across the Guardians twice in my life, and I've never actually read any books with them in it.

To say that I was surprised that Marvel was thinking of making a movie for them is an understatement. Now I understand what Marvel is doing. They're using the Guardians to open up the cosmic universe within their Cinematic Universe, before taking other characters out there in future films. They're really expanding the scope of the Iron Man/Cap/Thor/Avengers franchise.

Most viewers will be meeting these guys for the first time, but we'll be seeing them again, further down the line, with some Terran friends next time.

Yeah I read some spoilers/speculation that one of the Avengers gets 'sent' there Won't spoil it, but I'm sure you know what I am talking about. And in another film we'll see more of their interaction and return to Earth.

I've got the Marvel comics app for my daughter and I. I've been catching up on the Guardians of the Galaxy comics. There actually aren't very many of them, but they're entertaining.

I had never heard of them when they first announced the movie, but I can see why they wanted to make these movies, and the extended universe it opens up is huge.

I think Marvel also realized that people are having problems figuring out who these guys are.

Thus the $0.99 for 1 month access to the Marvel comics app...

And to get the kids on the wagon, the Guardians have appeared in a couple of Disney XD's Marvel cartoon shows within the last year or so.
