Default Another "it followed me home"

Some of you know I'm a bit of an audio nut and been through many iterations of stereo gear over the years in the music room. Theater is a different story for another time.

Finally jumped in on some speakers that are more than I'd normally spend but they reproduce the best music I've ever heard; and I've heard hundreds of speakers at shows, sound rooms, hobby get-togethers etc.

Of course getting great sound, a lot depends on the source material and a plethora of other different things...

Due to their weight and not wanting any damage in shipping I drove from PA to IL to pick these up and drive them home.

I also got to spend time with the president and chief engineer/designer which was extremely cool. I've met him before at audio shows but never had the time to sit and spend 45 minutes just talking shop. That alone was worth the 12 hour trip out.

They are about 6' tall, 288 lbs each, and close to 400 lbs each in their crates.

Sound is just pure awesomeness
Scott

listening to them at the Legacy sound room

Guys packing them up to load in my truck.

finally got them setup and running room correction software in the DSP
This is where the magic happens

those are nice.

As you apparently know... they need somewhat precise distances away from back & side room walls to give their best sound.

All perspective and what is important to you.

On the other hand, if you need help setting up excellent tunes in the work shop, give me a shout.

Many speakers are very reactive with room boundaries. Legacy specializes in acoustic steering to "fire" the wave at the listener to minimize room interaction.

Of course the basics still apply; don't put them directly against the wall and keep them different distances from sidewalls (prevents comb filtering etc)

But between speaker/driver design and the DSP, they took a lot of the room out of the equation. It's amazing technology.

Sold them to a buddy who is also an audio nut and stepped up to the Aeris.

Traded the Aeris back to Legacy for the Valors.

We gotta meet up for a cold one someday. You still up in the Saskatchewan area?

i mostly play my iPhone via an old (recurring word isn't it?) Apple speaker that dates back to the original iPod times (so likely 2008 or so). slight work around to get the cables to connect, as the iPhone 6 doesn't have a 30 pin connector.

i did get new boots last year!

the radio/tape player (no CD option) dates back to at least 1993, as i know i dragged it with me to Antarctica. still works.

Mac has long been the benchmark for great amp builds but in the past decade they've gone down hill with new owners, build quality issues etc.
I've not liked a lot of their stuff since Clarion took them over.

They still make a well built amp for the most part but their speaker tech is out of date by a good 15 years.

There are dozens of speaker manufacturers that far outperform their speakers, and for less money. Not the same company they were in the day.

So are they not using their ribbon tweeter or the aircirc ribbon?
That thing was a beauty?
The Aeris had 2 right? 1 longer one and one smaller one?

Yeah, they're using the AMT tweets since ~ 2014. (folded metal) The Aeris had the tweet and super tweet combo in one housing by AMT.

It really is the star of the upper range. Very accurate without the harshness of Be or other metal style tweets.

It's one of the only tweets I've ever heard that can accurately reproduce percussion without the sibilance. No harshness or shrill sounds whatsoever.
