Yep, all those companies like InstaCart and DoorDash that boomed during the pandemic when everyone was stuck at home are now seeing their revenues plummet.

InstaCart in particular is doomed, because their business model is to mark up every single item you buy by 20% or 25% - I'm lazy, but I'm not that lazy.

Plus a lot of these gig workers who deliver for these cmopanies are complete douchebags. Example: when my next-door neighbor gets a delivery from DoorDash, invariably the driver parks their car directly in front of my driveway, blocking it. They do this despite the availability of ample curbside parking. At the very least, if you're going to block someone's driveway, it shoudl be the driveway of the house you're delivering to, not some random neighbor.

What you left out is they took 30% from shops then up charged the buyer if not the minimum amount then expected a tip. There has been many an article about a hamburger combo meal costing 30 plus bucks delivered if not more. Businesses absolutely hated those services from the fees.
People were stupid enough to use them was the problem without researching anything about it.

I haven't ordered any food by delivery since I was in high school, and it was a novelty, where people at a party pitched in for pizza. I don't understand the allure of having food or groceries delivered. I want to select my own groceries, especially produce, and if I am purchasing food from a restaurant, I want to enjoy the ambience of that restaurant, not have food delivered in a styrofoam container, then have to use my own dishes and utensils to eat.

I had groceries delivered once in 2020. I was sick as hell and just had them drop them outside the door.

As far as the restaurant delivery, I have many friends in the industry and they were mostly held captive by the government and the only way they could stay afloat for 2 years was to pay what amounted to be an extortion rate to the delivery companies. I hope the delivery services die a slow, painful death. I have always gone and picked up from the local restaurants to ensure that the money is going into their businesses.
